India's legendary actor Shamsher Raj Kapoor, a prominent lead actor and who is also known as Shammi Kapoor was born on the 21st October, 1931. He is the son of legendary Prithviraj Kapoor and Ramsharni Kapoor. Even though the actor was born in Mumbai he spent most of his childhood in Calcutta. He completed graduation from Ramnarain Rui College.He was in a relationship with Nadia Gamal who was a belly dancer and an Egyptian actress. He got into the world of cinema in 1948. He was mostly known for his formal dressing sense and was compared to the Hollywood singer Elvis Presley. He made his Bollywood debut in the year 1953 with the film Jeevan Jyoti.He further went and delivered exceptional performances in movies like Tumsa Nahi Dekha, Dil Deke Dekho, Junglee, Dil Tere Diwana, Professor, China Town, Rajkumar, Kashmir Ki Kali, Janwar, Teesri Manzil, An evening in Paris, Brahmachari, Andaz and Vidhata. He has recieved the life time achievement in the year 2005.He also received the lifetime achievement award by Zee Cine and Star Dust in the years 1999 and 2001. Shammi Kapoor met Geeta Bali and married her in the 1955. He was the founder and chairman of of Internet Users Community of India. He started on with serious roles like Tumsa Nahi Dekha in the year 1957 opposite Ameeta and Dil Deke Dekho in the year 1959 with Asha Parekh.Mohammad Rafi was then choosen as his play back voice. He has son named Aditya Kapoor and a daughter named Kanchan kapoor. Geeta Bali passed away in the year 1955 as she was suffering from small pox. Shammi Kapoor then married Neila Devi January 27, 1969. He received the Best actor award for the movie Brahmachari in the year 1968. He made his last appearance in Imtiaz Ali's Rockstarr co-starring his grand- nephew Ranbir Kapoor. Ranbir Kapoor is the grandson of his brother Raj Kapoor.Shammi Kapoor died of chronic renal failure at the age of 79 on the 14th of August, 2011 at Breach Candy hospital. A brass statue is welded at Bandstand, Bandra in his honour.
