Bhamini will now be seen in Abhishek Banerjee's starrer short film,’ Vakeel Babu’ which is available for streaming on Amazon Mini TV and was shortlisted for the New York film festival.

TellyChakkar got in touch with the actor to talk about her role, how she prepared and

You play a character that might resonate with a lot of women who go through this terrible incident, what was your preparation like to play this role of a domestic abuse survivor?

My complete research and development came from Mr. Sumit purohit our director, he had an evident vision in his mind and he conveyed the same to me. He told me that we are very much covering the topic but we are not desensitizing it. And there are a lot of domestic issues that exist and some people speak out while others don’t but you cannot judge them on the basis of that because sometimes the situations are not favorable. Its never black or white when it comes to these matters. It takes a lot of courage to choose the legal route and that was the central idea behind it.

What are the factors that help you in choosing a role?

As an actor, if you’ve done a role, you do get offered similar roles but I believe every individual has a different approach and something new to offer and different stories to tell and there is always something different that we can find and add to the characters even if they are minute. I look for things if I am able to bring to life the writers and director's vision, if that is convincing enough for me then that is surely an added bonus.

Do you watch your own work and are you self-critical of the work you do?

I do watch the work and it's nice to be able to look at it without bias and just look for things that I can improve. It’ never going to be a situation where I’ll be like , ‘this is my best work’, there are always things that one can improve and see the scope for themselves.

The story follows Shiraz Hassan's (Banerjee's) journey as he rediscovers his calling in the legal system after becoming sidetracked by the pursuit of popularity for his online video channel.

#VakeelBabu, which sprang out of extensive, in-person research on the obstacles facing victims of gender-based violence (GBV), wants to spark discussion on the crucial part attorneys play in the lives of their clients who are fighting for justice against GBV, particularly domestic abuse.
