MUMBAI:  In an interview, transgender activist and actress Laxmi Narayan Tripathi has shared her opinion on same-sex marriage.

The Central Government recently told the Delhi High Court that there is no fundamental right to same-sex marriage. The submission was made in the Central Government's affidavit filed in a petition seeking recognition of same-sex marriage under the Hindu Marriage Act. Talking about the same, Laxmi Narayan Tripathi told Times Of India, “Marriage is about the union of two souls, not two genders. We respect the judiciary and accept their decision, but I feel the government has brought many progressive changes in the past and it should consider same sex marriage, too. It is important to wait for the Supreme Court's verdict on this.”

Stressing on the fact that that Section 377 has been decriminalised, she added, “After Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code was decriminalised, the Supreme Court recognised transgender rights, officially making them the third gender. It is important that if two individuals love each other, they should be given the permission to marry and live a happy life.”

On the work front, Laxmi has appeared on The Kapil Sharma Show, participated in Bigg Boss 5 (2011), Sach Ka Samna with Rajeev Khandelwal, 10 Ka Dum with Salman Khan and Raaz Pichle Janam Ka. She has a postgraduate degree in Bharatnatyam.
