MUMBAI: Bollywood is not only about the glam world but one also has to work hard for the same. When actors say that they can go to any extent to justify their roles, they literally mean it and do it. This is what is known as going out of the box. In so many years we have seen how celebs have shocked and surprised the audience with their transformations to essay certain roles. Recently, in the trailer of Akshay Kumar in ‘Bell Bottom’ which is the hot topic of the town, Lara Dutta’s look went viral and caught great attention on the internet. Fans were awe stuck to see her transformation as Indira Gandhi.

Kamal Haasan

He is one who is a versatile actor, managed to leave everyone shocked with his avatar as Chachi in ‘Chachi 420’. His complete transformation as a cute and bold nanny left fans amazed. His prosthetics process was done by an American artist Michael Westmore.

Ranbir Kapoor

Ranbir Kapoor’s look in Rajkumar Hirani’s ‘Sanju’ was a replica of Sanjay Dutt. His work was appreciated by many and the movie was a big hit. The uncanny resemblance between the real and reel Sanju was highly appreciated. Ranbir reveals, “Sanjay Dutt's face has changed over the years. Because of alcohol, his face had gotten puffy and his chin had kind of come down. So I think that added to his aging process. Tests after tests we kept failing and it's really hard because you have to sit on a chair for six hours, hoping like 'God make this work'. And it's just in a span of 30 seconds that you see, 'it's not working' and you realize that six hours of work has gone down in drain.”

Kangana Ranaut

She was seen playing a double role in ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns. She essayed the role of being Tanu and Datto. She managed to impress the audience with her different looks and of course her acting skills to make the character more alive. Makeup artist Vikram Gaikwad was hired to transform Kangana as Datto. Reports say that about 10 sets of dentures were tried and tested to get it right before the look was finalised. Now this work is really hectic.

Shah Rukh Khan

The King of Romance SRK - Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Fan’ garnered a lot of praise from the audience. He was seen in a double role in the film as film star Aryan Khanna and his obsessive fan Gaurav Chandna, who looks just like him. It took SRK six long hours to get Gaurav’s look. SRK had earlier said, “Initially it took six hours and once I got a hang of it, then it took three hours.”

Priyanka Chopra

Pee Cee was seen playing the role of Jhilmil in Anurag Basu’s directorial ‘Barfi’. The film is indeed a big hit. She was seen alongside Ranbir Kapoor in the film. She was seen playing the role of an autistic woman.

Amitabh Bachchan

Amitabh Bachchan’s look in ‘Paa’ is something unique and one of the most unbelievable looks to date. Big B was seen playing the role of a 12-year-old progeria patient in the film. They had roped in international make-up artist Stephan Dupuis, who did Robin Williams' make-up in ‘Mrs. Doubtfire’. He had mentioned, “The prosthetic process is arduous...Around eight pieces specially designed through laborious clay models are most meticulously stuck on to the face. Once the make-up starts, it is impossible to move even a few centimetres. Eating and drinking has to be avoided and you cannot talk because it displaces the pieces over the contours of the face. Separate pieces form the entire look.” He had to sit for 5 hours every day to get the look of Auro, isn't it a wow work?

Lara Dutta

In the film 'Bell Bottom' , Lara will be seen playing the role of the late former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Soon after the trailer was released, fans started sharing Lara’s look on social media. Speaking about her role, Lara said at the trailer launch, “It is a great responsibility when you portray someone who's an iconic figure like Mrs Gandhi. It was very important to get her body language right. The film is about a hijack that took place during Mrs Gandhi's tenure. Given the dramatic events that were unfolding, she was extremely centred. It was important therefore to portray her in that way. As a result, a lot of homework and research went into the role. It was an opportunity I am very thankful for.”
