Dalip Tahil in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag
Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, based on the real life story of ‘The Flying Sikh’ Milkha Singh is drawing praises from all quarters more so for immaculate portrayal of Farhan Akhtar as Milkha Singh. Along with Dalip Tahil's portrayal of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in the film has come in for a lot of appreciation. Milkha Singh, who has met Pandit Nehru in person and seen the film too is amazed not just by the likeness of the senior actor to the first Prime Minister of our country, but also with the nuances that the actor has managed to give out in his important cameo in the film. Interestingly, Roshan Sheth, who essayed the role of India’s first Prime Minister in Richard Attenborough’s masterpiece Gandhi, had also drawn a lot of praises from all quarters for his sensitive portrayal. Having started his acting career at the tender age of 10 when Tahil was schooling in Sherwood College, Nainital, the actor bagged the prestigious 'Kendall Cup' for the best actor for two years in succession first as Joseph in the play ‘My three Angels’ and again as Macbeth in Shakespeare's ‘Macbeth’. Later in 1968, Tahil joined the prestigious Theatre Group Bombay and trained under directors Alyque and Pearl Padamsee. After dedicating his younger days in doing a lot of plays, Shyam Benegal noticed Tahil and offered him a part in his first feature film Ankur. From there, it was no looking back for the seasoned actor. His debut in mainstream cinema came in the early 80s when Ramesh Sippy offered him the role of a villain in his epic production Shaan that was followed by a cameo in Richard Attenborough's iconic film Gandhi. In his career from the ‘80s to 2013, Tahil has appeared in over 100 Bollywood films, the notables being Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Ram Lakhan, Tridev, Kishen Kanhaiya, Thanedaar,Deewana, Baazigar, Darr, Ishq, Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani, King Uncle, Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke, Kaho Na Pyar Hai among many others.
