I have never pretended to be an original filmmaker - Mohit Suri

Ek Villain’s been charging like a raging bull at the box-office. With astounding collections of 50 crore at the box-office in a span of three days, Mohit Suri looks all set to storm into the 100 crore club very soon, something that he himself admits to have never touched in his life, yet. His previous juggernaut Aashiqui 2 grossed 79 crore at the Indian box-office. Ask him if he expects to enter the coveted 100 club this time, Mohit says, “Well, if you are asking about whether I am looking at a profit of more than 79 crore, I would say that would be great. I want my films to make money because only then can I make more films.” The film however has opened to mixed reviews with critics rating it as an average fare. Many have even termed it as an inspired remake of the 2010 Korean film I Saw the Devil. Mohit however remains unfazed in the face of these comparisons. “I am not pretending to be a so called original filmmaker,” affirms Mohit and adds, “Everything I have done in life is inspired from what I have seen, what I have read or from a story that someone has told me. In fact that shot from Aashiqui 2, where Aditya looks at Shraddha who is standing on the terrace is something I saw in The Artist. I have been inspired by all these brilliant shots all throughout my life. But having said that essentially if you want to talk about the comparisons between the Korean film and Ek Villain, then I would like to say that my characters are not the same. I don’t even think that film has a love story to begin with. They don’t even have Shraddha’s part in it.” Mohit who made it a point to watch the Korean movie just to check on the rumoured similarities believes that the characters etched out in both these films are radically opposite to each other. “How can one draw parallels when the hero in the Korean movie is a cop and mine is a gangster,” asks Mohit. “The villain is a rapist and pedophile. My character (the role played by Riteish Deshmukh) has a family and a kid. There are of course no similarities.” Well, inspired or not, we are sure Mohit Suri is currently laughing his way to the bank. The makers have also called up a press conference tomorrow to celebrate the success of the movie.
