Kaveri Kapur

MUMBAI: Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur recently celebrated his birthday surrounded by love, cinema, and cherished memories, thanks to a beautifully organised celebration by his daughter Kaveri Kapur. Taking to social media, Kaveri shared glimpses of an intimate dinner gathering, where the legendary director's closest friends and associates came together to honour his incredible journey in cinema. The gathering served as the perfect blend of nostalgia and celebration, with every detail thoughtfully curated to pay tribute to Shekhar Kapur's visionary filmmaking journey and te reminisce his greatest hits and accomplishments, both in Indian and international cinema.

Kaveri took to her social media to share pictures and penned, "Happy birthday", as she incorporated iconic elements from her father's most celebrated works. The dinner set up included poster cards of his groundbreaking films Bandit Queen and Mr. India, reminding guests of the director's ability to craft stories that went on to become both culturally significant and universally resonant. The pièce de résistance, however, was an exquisitely designed birthday cake adorned with fondant figurines of Anil Kapoor from Mr. India, Cate Blanchett from Elizabeth, and Seema Biswas from Bandit Queen, three of the most iconic characters from Shekhar Kapur's filmography.

Kaveri's thoughtful celebration not only marked her father's birthday, but also served as a reminder of Shekhar Kapur's enduring legacy as a filmmaker who has consistently pushed boundaries and told stories that matter. From the social commentary of Bandit Queen to the fantastical wonder of Mr. India and the regal grandeur of Elizabeth, Shekhar Kapur has proven time and again that great cinema will never be limited by geographical borders and genres. While the filmmaker rings in another milestone trip around the sun, he is all set to helm the sequel to his 1983 classic Masoom which will bring back the original star cast of Naseeruddin Shah and Shabana Azmi, with the addition of his daughter Kaveri.
