MUMBAI: As Jatadhara, presented by Zee Studios and Prerna Arora, releases tomorrow, anticipation has reached its peak. The film’s creative force — directors Abhishek Jaiswal and Venkat Kalyan, alongside producer Prerna Arora — reveal the decade-long research, devotion, and preparation that went into shaping this powerful cinematic universe where divinity meets darkness.
Starring Sudheer Babu and Sonakshi Sinha, Jatadhara transcends the boundaries of a conventional supernatural thriller. It is an exploration of faith, possession, and divine power — rooted deeply in India’s spiritual and cultural consciousness.
To ensure authenticity, Abhishek Jaiswal spent months studying possessed individuals, observing their energy shifts, voice modulations, and body language — insights that formed the emotional and physical foundation for the film’s most intense sequences.
“I didn’t want the actors to act possessed; I wanted them to feel it,” Abhishek shared. “The voice changes, the rhythm of the breath, the eyes — everything we recreated on screen is drawn from real energy. The audience shouldn’t just watch it; they should feel it.”
While Abhishek focused on behaviour, Venkat Kalyan immersed himself in the spiritual and cultural fabric of the story. He introduced Sonakshi Sinha to real “Pisachi” performances to help her embody divine possession with authenticity.
“Sonakshi was deeply committed. She didn’t want to fake a single moment,” Venkat said. “She studied real Pisachi rituals — the rage, the devotion, the transformation. She absorbed it all and delivered something truly powerful.”
Venkat, who has been developing Jatadhara for over a decade, also attended festivals such as Bonalu in Telangana to capture the true essence of divine energy.
“Bonalu taught me what divine energy truly looks like — chaotic, beautiful, and sacred all at once. I spent ten years refining Jatadhara to capture that duality where devotion meets destruction,” he added.
Producer Prerna Arora, known for championing cinematic depth and strong narratives, shared how Jatadhara represents a rare blend of spirituality and storytelling.
“Jatadhara is not just a film — it’s a spiritual experience. Every element, from the research to the visuals, is grounded in truth. We wanted audiences to witness something that transcends fiction — a story that feels alive with divine energy,” said Prerna.
“The effort and emotion poured in by the entire team — Abhishek, Venkat, Sonakshi, and Sudheer — have made this a once-in-a-lifetime cinematic journey.”
The film also features an ensemble cast including Divya Khossla (special appearance), Shilpa Shirodkar, Indira Krishna, Ravi Prakash, Naveen Neni, Rohit Pathak, Jhansi, Rajeev Kanakala, and Subhalekha Sudhakar.
Presented by Zee Studios and Prerna Arora, Jatadhara is a bilingual supernatural fantasy thriller produced by Umesh Kumar Bansal, Shivin Narang, Aruna Agarwal, Prerna Arora, Shilpa Singhal, and Nikhil Nanda, with Akshay Kejriwal and Kussum Arora as co-producers, Divya Vijay as Creative Producer, and Bhavini Goswami as Supervising Producer.
Backed by Zee Music Co., the film promises to be one of the year’s most ambitious and visually arresting cinematic experiences — an epic tale of faith, destiny, and the eternal battle between light and darkness.
