His contributions to Hindi and Telugu cinema have made him one of the industry’s most talked-about creative voices.
In a recent interview, Varma addressed several longstanding controversies, including the persistent rumours surrounding his professional association with actress Urmila Matondkar.
He dismissed the “myth-making” that has followed him and Urmila since the 1990s, despite their collaborations being rooted purely in cinema.
Their films, Rangeela, Daud, Satya, and Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya, became defining works of their era, elevating Urmila to cultural icon status and cementing Varma’s reputation for crafting bold, memorable female characters.
“I think she is the most versatile actress; that is why I have worked with her in so many movies,” he said. “I have worked with Amitabh Bachchan more, but nobody talks about it.”
He added that much of the speculation stems from assumptions amplified by the digital age rather than actual events.
Looking ahead, Ram Gopal Varma is returning to the genre that once earned him cult acclaim, horror.
His upcoming film, Police Station Main Bhoot, stars Manoj Bajpayee and is set entirely inside the claustrophobic walls of a police station.
The project marks their reunion after 27 years and is expected to recapture the psychological tension that made Bhoot one of Varma’s most lauded horror films.
As Varma revisits the darker, more atmospheric territory he is known for, audiences are eager to see whether this next chapter will echo the brilliance of his earlier works while introducing his signature unpredictability to a new generation of viewers.
