Naseeruddin Shah to launch a book on Urdu poets of Delhi
National Award-winning veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah will launch the book "Beloved Delhi- A Mughal City And Her Greatest Poets", written by Delhi based-debutant author Saif Mahmood, on 17 September.
Apart from the discussion on the book between Naseeruddin and lyricist Kausar Munir, there will be a photographic presentation by Anant Raina, read a statement.
At the event, Delhi will be showcased, being the seat of Urdu poetry, describing famous locations that have spawned great works featured in the book.
Mehmood is a lawyer and activist who loves Urdu poetry.
I've apparently become a sequel queen: Kriti Kharbanda
Actress Kriti Kharbanda, who featured in the third installment of the Yamla Pagla Deewana series and is part of the upcoming film Housefull 4, feels that she has become a sequel queen.
"I have apparently become a sequel queen because of films Raaz: Reboot, Guest Iin London, Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se and Housefull 4," Kriti told a leading publication.
She doesn't feel that she will get stereotyped.
"They are all different genres of films. Even if I do get stereotyped, I would like to think that it is more of a challenge because if you are given one character and asked to play in 10 different ways, it says more about me as an actor.
"It is far more challenging that you are given the same character, but you have to play in 10 ways. So how would you do it? That's acting school in itself," said the Karwaan actress.
Asked if featuring in multi-starrer films and sharing screen space with actors like Dharmendra, Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Akshay Kumar and Kriti Sanon bothers her, she said, "I don't know how any film can bother you. It doesn't have to do with multi-starrer films. If you are insecure, you can feel insecure being the only girl also.
"Like I could have been insecure in Yamla Pagla... if I wanted to be. With three actors who are amazing beyond belief and are a brand themselves, they don't even need me. They made sure that I was part of it. It's about the people whom you meet. They make you secure or insecure. It's their attitude. I have been very fortunate."
Sushmita Sen mourns death of Miss Universe 1995
Indian actress Sushmita Sen on Sunday mourned the death of Chelsi Smith, who was her successor as Miss Universe in 1995.
Smith died on Saturday due to liver cancer at the age of 43.
Sushmita tweeted, "I loved her smile and that generous spirit. Rest in peace my beautiful friend, Chelsi Smith. Miss Universe 1995."
Along with the post, Sushmita posted a photograph which captures the moment the Indian beauty had passed her crown to Smith.
Smith was also Miss Galveston County in 1994, and had featured in various shows and films.
Aishwarya receives Meryl Streep Award with daughter, mother in tow
Actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was honoured with the inaugural Meryl Streep Award for Excellence at the Women in Film and Television (WIFT) India Awards here.
She was accompanied to the event by her daughter Aaradhya and mother.
The former beauty queen on Sunday took to Instagram to thank her fans for their beloved wishes.
She wrote, "A heartfelt thank you to all my well-wishers from India and all around the world, for being my inspiration and strength. God bless and all my love."
She also posted a few pictures in which she can be seen holding a trophy in her hand and her daughter and mother beside her.
The Fanney Khan actress also penned a message for six-year-old Aaradhya.
"You my Aaradhya complete me. Divine, blissful and eternal love," Aishwarya captioned the photograph of her daughter.
Apart from Aishwarya, filmmaker Zoya Akhtar received the Wyler Award for Excellence in Direction, and Dhadak star Janhvi Kapoor was also honored with the WIFT Emerald Award.
In photographs from the event, Janhvi, daughter of late acting icon Sridevi, is seen exchanging pleasantries with Aishwarya.

Akshay's fans get birthday treat with new '2.0' poster
On the occasion of his 51st birthday on Sunday, actor Akshay Kumar on Sunday treated his fans with a fresh poster of his character from the upcoming sci-fi thriller 2.0.
Revealing some details about his character in the film, Akshay said he is portraying a dark superhero.
"Here's a special birthday treat for all my fans. Sharing with you my most powerful character and one which has probably stayed with me for the longest time. I am the dark superhero for those who don't have a voice! Humans beware," he wrote on Instagram.
Along with the post, he uploaded the poster showcasing his 2.0 avatar. Akshay looks almost unrecognisable as the antagonist with prosthetics.
Directed by S. Shankar, 2.0, which stars Rajinikanth, is a sequel of 2010 film Enthiran -- released in Hindi as Robot. The film is slated to release on 29 November.
The film's teaser will be out on 13 September.
Goldie Behl excited about 'Marry Me, Stranger'
With Anuja Joshi, Gaurav Chopra, Mrinal Dutt and Priya Banerjee joining the team of Marry Me, Stranger, filmmaker Goldie Behl says he enjoyed the whole process of putting the whole team together for the series, which tells a "dark and twisted story" of urban India.
"Marry Me, Stranger" is part of "The Stranger Trilogy".
Author Novoneel Chakraborty's "The Stranger Trilogy" is being adapted into a romantic thriller digital series for Applause Entertainment in partnership with Behl. Faruk Kabir is directing the series.
The three-season show revolves around the fictional love story of a woman and her pursuer.
Chakraborty is an author known for his romantic thrillers. "Marry Me, Stranger", "All Yours, Stranger" and his latest "Forget Me Not, Stranger" are the three books which follow the life of the protagonist Rivanah. Anuja will be seen as Rivanah.
"'The Stranger Series' with its present day and easy to relate to context is the perfect web series for today's audiences and I'm happy to be working on it. It's always great to work on projects for Sameer Nair and I have enjoyed putting together this cast of committed actors and a quality crew for this series," Behl said.
"Marry Me, Stranger" traces the journey of Rivanah as she comes to Mumbai from the US to find a base as an actor.
Talking about her character, Anuja said, "This young character's discovery of her self-worth, especially in a big city like Mumbai, is something I know many people will relate to. We have passionately created an edge of your seat adventure. I hope everyone will enjoy the trippy ride."
Chakroborty says he has "watched the initial material that has been shot" and is impressed with it.
"Goldie Behl has done justice to my books and brought depth and an experienced eye as producer to this series. I look forward to audience reactions to this content," Chakroborty added.
Sameer Nair, CEO of Applause Entertainment, also said, "'Marry Me, Stranger' belongs to the sexy and scary genre and Goldie has brought Novoneel's disturbing book to life. It is a dark, twisted story in the universe of the young and restless of urban India."
The series is currently in the post production phase.
Desire to pen book on India's unsung conservation heroes: Dia Mirza
Actor-environmentalist Dia Mirza, who could soon pen a new book on the "unsung" foot soldiers of conservation in India, said here that her literary tastes have evolved over the past years.
Speaking at the launch of a poetry collection here, Dia told a leading Publication that she has "a deep desire to write a book on the unsung heroes of India, who are on the frontier of, or are the foot soldiers of, conservation".
"The book will be about those heroes who put their life at risk to protect nature and wildlife, the planet and all of us," she said.
The UN Environment's Goodwill Ambassador for India also said preparations for the book are already underway.
"I've done my research; I know who exactly I want to write about. It's only a matter of taking the time out and sitting down to write it," shared Dia, who is one of Bollywood's most active spokespersons on environmental issues.
What's more is that the book could be expected within the next year.
On the acting front, Dia, who was last seen in Sanju (2018) as Maanayata Dutt, is all set to play the character of Khanzada Begum -- Mughal ruler Babur's sister -- in Nikkhil Advani's Moghuls.
The historical show, also starring actors Ronit Roy and Shabana Azmi, has been adapted from Alex Rutherford's six-volume historic fiction novel "Empire of the Moghul".
Asked if she has read the complete novel, the Rehna Hai Terre Dil Mein star responded that she had to.
She added that when approached with Khanzada's role, she realised "the character hadn't cropped up in any of the history books" that she had read.
Explaining her motivation behind the read, the actor said it helped her "understand the circumstances that the person lived in; and to embody the time, the emotion, and the understanding of the world as it existed that time."
The former Miss Asia Pacific, who has recently finished reading "The Silk Road", said her literary tastes have evolved over the years, but history books are her current favourites.
Dia also named Shashi Tharoor and Romila Thapar as two of her favourite Indian authors, terming them as "incredibly engaging and insightful" writers.
"I think so much of your evolution is determined by which literary works you expose your mind and heart to," she said, adding that she wouldn't be half the person she is, had she not read the works she has.
The actor also listed "Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy", "Tuesdays with Morrie" and "Other Worlds of Isaac Asimov" as books that had "an indelible impression on her mind".
Dia recently launched a debut poetry collection "The Sound of Silence", and placed poetry as a "constant" in her reading lists.
"I think my idea of life and love has heightened courtesy the poetry I've read," she said, adding that E.E. Cummings and Pablo Neruda have been her go-to poets.
Dilip Kumar still in ICU, improving
Veteran actor Dilip Kumar's health is improving at the intensive care unit of a hospital here for treatment of pneumonia, said a family friend.
The 95-year-old actor was on Wednesday admitted to the Lilavati Hospital and Research Centre, Bandra, after he felt uneasy due to chest infection. The treatment is on for a patch of pneumonia.
"He is in ICU and his condition is improving. Antibiotics are being given intravenously," Udaya Tara Nayar, compiler of Dilip Kumar's autobiography, told a leading publication.
His wife and actress Saira Banu has been by his side.
One of India's most iconic actors, Dilip Kumar has appeared in some classics like Kohinoor, Mughal-e-Azam, Shakti, Naya Daur and Ram Aur Shyam.
He was last seen on the silver screen in 1998 in Qila.
Nandita Das joins rally for gender parity at Toronto
High-profile celebrities from the film world, including Indian actress-director Nandita Das, called for gender equality in showbiz at a rally at the ongoing Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
Director Geena Davis and Oscar-winning producer Cathy Schulman were among the several others who on Saturday spoke about the need for gender parity. It was the first TIFF since movie mogul Harvey Weinstein was toppled by sexual assault allegations.
Before the 'Share Her Journey' rally, artistic director Cameron Bailey pledged TIFF's support for a broader industry gender parity movement called 50/50 by 2020.
The Directors Guild of Canada also used TIFF to launch a national campaign called "So Not Cool," which encourages bystanders, actors and film crews to build safe, respectful environments on and off movie sets.
On her part, Nandita, whose forthcoming drama Manto had its North American premiere here, said she was now proud to be called as a woman director and wanted to see more women stepping into filmmaking.
"I used to get upset about with how people called me a 'woman director'. But for the past few years I have begun owning it. I would like to be just called a director but for the last few years I love to be called a woman director."
The 48-year-old Nandita also raised concerns over the skewed man-woman sex ratio in South Asia.
"We are still struggling with sex ratio. There are little girls who are not being allowed to born. There are many missing girls. It is a land of paradoxes.
"We all should have a collective will to see the world as more equal and more peaceful place. It is up to us on how to change this world and make a better place to live in," she added.
Earlier this year, Nandita attended the Cannes Film Festival where she, along with a host of other women celebrities, protested against the gender gap.
‘Little Singham' to be back with second season
Animation series Little Singham, launched by Reliance Animation and Rohit Shetty Picturez in collaboration with Discovery Kids, will soon be back on the small screen with season two.
Season two will be launched on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi later this month, read a statement.
Starting from 13 September, the second season will introduce new villains, new adventures and locations topped up with festive themes like Ganpati, Navratri, Dussehra and Diwali.
Little Singham, inspired by super cop brand and Bollywood blockbuster Singham, was launched on 21 April, and targets children in the age group of five-11 years.
"Little Singham’s success has further reinforced my conviction about the strength of Singham franchise. I knew that Little Singham would be a runaway success even before the IP was officially launched earlier this year -- but the scale of it has made me numb," Shetty said.
"My gratitude to the audiences who continue to shower their blessings on brand Singham. Little Singham has in a way expanded the loyal following of Singham brand even further by getting the youngest of the audiences to its fold. The second season of Little Singham will take the fun quotient even higher," added the director.
Uttam Pal Singh, Business Head, Discovery Kids, also added, "The theme of the second season is ‘Double Tashan-Double Fun'. It promises the kids more entertainment, more action, crazy new villains and great laughter moments with their favourite character - Little Singham."
