Lata Mangeshkar is perhaps the only person in the film industry who has remained untouched by failure. In her glorious career, spanning over seven decades, never even once did she experience even a slightest downfall. Today, on the occasion of her 84th birthday, we thought of asking another icon from the film industry, Amitabh Bachchan, on what he thought about India’s nightingale. And here is what he had to say. “I wish Lataji a very happy birthday and pray that she has a long life and enthralls us for years to come. I am sure every Indian on the face of this earth has at least once in his or her lifetime been touched by her magical voice. I remember asking my father Harivansh Rai Bachchan once on what he thought about Lataji’s timeless voice and he said ‘Unke Gale Main Ek Shehad Ki Lehar Daudti Hain (A wave of honey rides inside her neck).” Now that’s a befitting tribute for Lataji coming from one of India’s greatest poets, the late Dr Harivansh Rai Bachchan.
