Shocking: Tragedy strikes at Mahabharat success party; post production head dies

post production head Yash Puri
It was one happy moment for the team of Mahabharat (Swastik Productions) as they completed their success last Saturday (16 August). The team got together at a suburban hotel and screened the last episode in the presence of the cast and crew. Giving the show a heart touching farewell, the production house also presented each team member with a token of appreciation in the way of a personalized trophy. Post the presentation, the team burnt the dance floor with them getting together and letting their hair down. It was a moment of sheer joy and exhilaration as each team member was seen enjoying the moment. But life has a strange way of giving some shocks. As the team was in a party mood, tragedy struck when Yash Puri, the head of post production complained of uneasiness to his friends and soon collapsed on the dance floor. The team members rushed him to the nearby Kokilaben Hospital but he was declared dead. Shares an actor from the show on terms of anonymity, “It was quite late around 1:30 am and everyone was happy partying. Suddenly Yash ji who was till then having a good time with everyone fell down. It actually took time for us to realise what had just happened. He was rushed to the hospital but we sadly lost him.” Originally from Ludhiana, the forty year old Yash was awarded with a memento for his sheer excellence work just few hours before his death by the production house. Yash is the nephew of veteran actor Om Puri and is survived by wife and two children. He had been associated with Swastik Production for the last seven years, having worked with almost all their shows. Apart from handling the post production, Yash also handled the VFX of Mahabharat and contributed his efforts to the writing team also. “Such is life that the day when we were celebrating the success of our show, this happened. The show has been close to and it looks as if he lived just enough to see it wrap up successfully. We have been left shocked with this incident. We hope god gives him a peaceful depart and his family the strength to overcome the loss,” added the actor. Producer Siddharth Tewary did not revert to our calls and messages. A resident of Malad, Yash’s last rites were performed yesterday at the Christian Cemetry in Meera Road amidst close family and friends.
