In 2004, Neha Dhupia created waves by famously remarking, ‘Sex and SRK sell in our country.’ Today 10 years later, not much has changed. Shah Rukh Khan continues to remain hot property and sex still remains a crowd puller courtesy the arrival of new baby dolls like Sunny Leone.
Recently when the actress shared the podium with SRK at her upcoming film, Ekkees Toppon Ki Salaami’s trailer launch, the actress was gently reminded of her famous statement and asked how she planned to sell the movie which has neither sex nor SRK in it. Neha had a witty repartee in place to counter the question. “The film has SRK’s support and the cast comprise of sexy people so the movie will sell.”
Ask her if she still stands by her statement, Neha says, “Every time I am next to SRK, people ask me this question, do you still believe in what I once said that only sex and SRK sell? And I am like yeah totally.”
Neha who didn’t let go off the chance to click a selfie with SRK on the eve of the movie’s trailer launch says just sharing the stage with the stage was an overwhelming moment. “He is such a charming man and I was having the time of my life. Just standing next to SRK is the most awesome thing.”
In Ekkees Toppon Ki Salaami, Neha will be seen playing a temptress who has all the viles to trap the mind of amorous men. Talking about her character, Neha says, “I am playing somebody who wants to be an actress. She is not really successful at what she is doing and ends up using different ways and mediums to succeed. She is very aware of her sexuality. So I am playing on the emotions of a woman who knows that she is desired. These kind of women obviously exist in our society.
Apart from spreading her seductive charms, Neha has also paid tribute to the yesteryear dance divas in Ekkees Toppon Ki Salaami. From Helen to Madhuri to even Aishwarya, Neha will be seen grooving to all those dance numbers made famous by these actresses. Revealing how the tribute took a lot out of her, Neha says, “There was so much pressure that broke into fever one day. The tough part was the fact that I had to dance like different actresses. I am not a dancer per say. I am just somebody who can dance. So to pay a dance tribute to all those divas was a big challenge. Personally, I found Helen aunty’s Mehbooba the most difficult because the steps were very different from what we follow now. It is pretty much the reverse of what we do now and Helen aunty did a fabulous job.”
Ekkees Toppon Ki Salaami which is Abhinav Shukla helmed Nautanki Films’ debut Bollywood venture will open in theaters on 10 October.
