Festivals will always belong to top superstars - Saif Ali Khan

Saif Ali Khan
It's the troika of Shah Rukh, Salman and Aamir who rule the festival box-office in India. If Eid belongs to Salman, SRK rules Diwali while Aamir stays unchallenged during Christmas. Such has been the trend for many years now and if reports are to be believed these top three guns have already booked the festival box-office till 2016 for their respective films. Now that of course leaves other superstars like Ajay, Akshay, Saif, Hrithik and others with the only option of releasing movies on days other than holidays. Ask Saif about the prevailing Khan monopoly and if it's good for the industry, the Nawab quips, "It's good for them." The actor however has no problems in the superstar Khans booking festival slots and thinks it's only fair to do so. Says Saif, "Stars will use it (festivals) to their benefit. There is a reason why these people are superstars. People like to see their movies. That is why they are such big stars all three of them, Salman, Shah Rukh and Aamir. People would want to see their films on a holiday. It's a very fair market. The film industry is a very democratic industry. Everything here works according to viewers's likes and dislikes." Saif is also of the opinion that on a any given day people would want to watch a commercial film rather than an art movie. And if it happens to be any of the superstar Khans films, all the more merrier. "At any given point the masses would prefer a Salman Khan film as compared to an art movie," avers Saif. Saif also believes the monopoly as far as festivals go will always prevail. "That (monopoly) would be there. Everyone would want to release their films on a festival because the collections on those days are ridiculously high. In my 22 year-old career only one movie has ever been released on a holiday, Race 2 and the collections sky rocketed then. Having said that, I think these spots would be taken by the top guys. It's a fair market." Saif's next release Happy Ending is slated to open in theaters across India this Friday.
