I never had any rivalry with my colleagues in Bollywood - Amitabh Bachchan

Amitabh Bachchan

In the rat race that Bollywood breeds, there are no permanent friends and no permanent foes. The only deciding factor is your film's box-office returns. With the advent of the 100 crore club(or 300 crore after PK), stakes have risen and so have on-screen rivalries between A-list actors. The fight for box-office  supremacy of the Khans and other A-listers is there for all to see. Everyone likes their share of limelight which they want to be the biggest. But any guesses as to who has consciously stayed away from this competition? It's none other than Amitabh Bachchan.

For the towering legend of Indian cinema, petty issues like who is hogging more limelight or who has a better role never ever caused any concerns. Shares Amitabh, "I have often been asked what kind of rivalry I have with my  colleagues. Do you have other intentions when working with them? Do you monitor somebody else’s work? It never enters my mind. I have never ever thought about it myself.”

In his long-standing illustrious career, it is only Amitabh's own performance alone that has mattered while shooting. “What matters to me is what happens when we are in front of the camera. I think for any actor, his credit will be when his or her colleague is performing to his optimum. It’s that reaction that I get from colleagues which makes my performance more creditable. So it is always good to have people who are excellent, accommodating and proficient in what they do because if I get a good reaction, my performance comes out good.”

For someone who has seen generation of superstars come and go, Amitabh says he has successfully kept ego-clashes at bay. And if there happens to be a better actor than Amitabh on the sets of his film, the superstar only sees it as a performance enhancing factor. "It is always nice to have somebody who if not at par is better than you. I have always looked upon my colleagues as that. I don’t have any rivalry with anyone."

Well, these essentially are the qualities that make him India's biggest superstar even today.
