ETC Business Awards are by far the only non-controversial awards in the history of Bollywood. For one, it is based only on pure numbers which means there no scope for subjectivity at all. And if the face of the show, ace film journalist and trade expert Komal Nahata is to be believed then these awards are 100 percent true.
Says Komal, "Our awards are based on pure business or box-office numbers which makes everyone view it without any suspicion or controversy. There is no ill-feeling attached to it because ultimately numbers will decide the winner."
In its 5th year now, Komal feels the awards have come a long way. "It feels really great that we have come this far from just a small idea that we had at the beginning. We have been able to cement a place in the hearts of not just our audience but also the film fraternity," shares Komal.
This time the awards will see a new category in the form of the most promising newcomer male and female. Commenting on these additions, Komal says, "We have a category called The Best Actor in the Newcomer category where the newcomers associated with top grossing film become the winner. But now we have realised that although his or her film has made the maximum money, he or she may not be the most promising actor. So we have decided to include this new category where we will recognise the talent that is here to stay."
While box-office numbers are more or less dependable, reports of them being fudged often make news. Ask Komal on how accurate the numbers of the Bollywood business awards are and pat comes his reply. "100 percent because we don't take into account the numbers given by the producers. We are directly in touch with the cinema halls and we have our representatives in about 250 centers and we get the right reports. Infact, the awards have been delayed by a week because there was close fight for the Best Actor Male as we were yet to get the final figures of the correct collection. It is only after gathering the accurate report, we finalised the awards"
And when will the on-air event become a ground event, we ask Komal."We are working on the modalities. Given the respect and dignity that the show has gathered, we would want the ground event to be the best. We are taking baby steps and I can assure you that when it happens, it will be the best," signs off Komal with a smile.
