Kumkum readies for new home, new look

With a new generation ready to move into Kumkum's quarters, the BAG Films unit is working round the clock to ensure that their new home is ready for shooting. The Kumkum set in suburban Mumbai, spread over an entire floor of a studio building, has been subjected to structural changes since 20 March, to make way for a household that will depict Kumkum's house 20 years later. "The decor, the colours, the look...everything is undergoing a sea change," says BAG Films creative head Rajesh Chadha.
While both Juhi Parmar and Hussain will age without having to show their age in tones of grey, they are being given a makeover in look. "For Hussain, we are playing with linen, which will give him a mature, but contemporary look. And Juhi will be styled by Shivani in sarees that we promise haven't been seen anywhere yet!" laughs Chadha. And yes, Anuj Saxena's character will be killed, ending speculation on how Manik's character would be ended. Anuj, who had had to stay away from shooting following income tax raids on the offices of his family owned Elder Pharma, resumed shooting last weekend and will be soon be eased out. The earlier arches have given way to a glass and steel angular look. The concrete structures in the earlier household have been replaced by wooden frames, and the earlier earthy tones have been replaced by vibrant colours, both in Juhi's room and in the new generation's bedrooms. "In fact, we are playing with baby pinks and oranges in Juhi's room as well," he says. "There's hardly been any transition time," says Chada, "since we have had to change over to the new look in a very short time....the new shoot starts from 2 April." Besides the new rooms that have to be created for the six new entrants, the fresh batch of actors will also have to be accommodated on new makeup rooms on the sets.
