Indian wrestler Sonika Kaliraman, who is expecting her first child, has voluntarily opted out of Colors’ show Bigg Boss. India’s only female wrestler Sonika entered the Bigg Boss house with a six-month baby bump last week. However, due to the troubled environment in the house she was given an option by the makers of the show to evict the house. She readily agreed and decided to bid adieu to the popular reality show.
Sonika is the daughter of late wrestling master Chandgi Ram and is married to US-based businessman Siddharth Malik. She has also participated in Color’s Fear Factor season 2 and Imagine’s Zor Ka Jhatka. In an exclusive interview with Tellychakkar, Sonika shares her experience in the Bigg Boss house and her future plans.
Excerpts from the interview...
How do you feel after getting out of the Bigg Boss house?
Life is peaceful now (sighs). As everybody knows last week was tough for me and my baby. We somehow managed (smiles). I wanted to stay in the house for a longer period but then I thought that nothing is more important than my baby. So I decided to opt out when the option was given to me.
How was your experience in the house?
Oh, it’s an experience of a lifetime. I will always cherish being a part of it. I enjoyed all the fun and frolic in the house. Waking up in the morning with a rocking soundtrack, participating in tasks, is really fun. I was there for only a week and it was just the beginning. Last couple of days of my stay was not that endearing. With all the fights and arguments, I am glad Bigg Boss thought about my condition and granted me freedom (smiles).
What was your reaction when Bigg Boss gave you the privileged option?
It was unexpected. I was called by Bigg Boss along with Shaktiji (Shakti Kapoor) and asked to leave or stay on my own will as the environment in the house was not favourable for the child. I thought about it for a while and decided to leave. I was overwhelmed by the whole situation.
Why did you take up Bigg Boss in the first place?
It was an intriguing offer for me. I am an adventurous person. I would not miss any opportunity where I can prove my worth. I would like to share an anecdote. After my marriage I was supposed to go on my honeymoon but at that very moment I was offered Fear Factor season 2 and I opted for the latter. That’s the way I am. My husband opposed my decision to participate in Bigg Boss as he is possessive about our yet-to-be-born first child. But I managed to convince him. My aim in Bigg Boss was to show the world that women can do whatever they want even in a state of pregnancy.
And how much did you succeed in your aim?
With whatever time I could spend in the house I showed the world that one can be stylish even in the state of pregnancy. I tried to show that women even though being pregnant can be stylish. You can enjoy and have fun and it is not a necessity to be locked in one room for nine months. I guess I did whatever I could. Hope people will appreciate me for this.
Who do you think is the most negative of all contestants?
I found one person who I will not call negative but she needs help. Pooja Missra is a good girl but many a times when I was in the house her behaviour was very repelling. She will start arguing and become sentimental at every small thing. She needs psychiatric treatment.
What do you think about Shakti Kapoor?
Shaktiji is one gem of a person. It is sad that due to his negative image in the industry people have spoken ill about him. I don’t know about others but I think very highly of him. He took care of me. When I went overboard with my masti he used to call me and say that I must take care. All those small gestures meant a lot to me. Shaktiji is trying very hard to come out of his negative image and he is doing this for his daughter Shraddha. He loves her a lot.
Who are the contestants with whom you gelled well?
It will be Pooja Bedi and also Raageshwari. Pooja is a very warm person. She shared her experience of motherhood with me and gave me a lot of suggestions. I connected pretty well with her. Raageshwari prayed for me and my baby’s well-being every morning. It’s really sweet.
Who do you think is the manipulator in the house?
I will say Shraddha Sharma. Shraddha goes and asks a person for his/her name and then will start staring at that person. Furthermore, after arguing with a person she will again become very sweet and pretend that nothing has ever happened. Her reactions are quite weird at times.
Whom do you want to win Bigg Boss season 5?
I want either Pooja Bedi or Shakti Kapoor to win Bigg Boss Season 5.
What are your future plans?
I am looking forward to the birth of my first child which will complete my family (smiles).
Any message for the readers?
I would like to say that always stay happy and don’t be greedy in life. If you are truthful then all good things will happen eventually. Never lose hope and enjoy life king-size. And please pray for my baby’s well being.
