The government's plan to make compulsory viewing of Marathi cinema in multiplexes mandatory has drawn in both positive as well as negative reactions from the industry. While Marathi filmmakers including Ravi
Jadhav welcomed this rule, few of them from Btown like Mukesh Bhatt opposed this move. A storm brew in the Assembly yesterday over a tweet of Shobha De who overtly criticised the CM and the government's decision.
Interestingly, Aamir Khan came out in support of Marathi and regional cinema. When asked about his take and the effect it will have on Hindi cinema, Aamir said, "I don't know if a legislation is needed to allow Marathi cinema to be played in prime time in multiplexes. I support Marathi and regional cinema. In any case, if audience like a film then it will automatically get greater number of shows. I am all for regional cinema. Regional cinema is vibrant and it is good that many regional cinemas in different languages films are being made in our country.”
Meanwhile, Shiv Sena today protested against Shobha De's offending tweet while others asked her to issue a written apology. Aamir however chose not to respond on Shobha De issue.
