Farhan Akhtar today endorsed Deepika Padukone's My Choice video and said that it was a brave one to do and she never meant to enforce her opinions through the video on anyone.
Said Farhan, "What Deepika shared was from her personal opinion about few things and we should be happy that she is sharing such personal things with us. There is no law that forbids us from sharing our opinion. Also she is not saying that you also do these things, she is just saying that is My Choice to do these things. I think it's okay as anybody can say what their choice is and she came out and bravely supported that cause. She also said that it's okay to agree with it or to not agree with it. So I don't have any problem with it whatsoever.”
Farhan Akhtar who is also the founder of MARD (Men against Rape & Discrimination), an initiative that chooses to raise social awareness about rape and discrimination against woman today stressed on the need to educate every girl child in the country to put an end to inequality and discrimination.
Said Farhan, "It is the mindset of the people that is at the root cause of every problem. The society defines roles for man and woman given the social set up. I think that needs to be reworked. Only then will it reflect in the ratio of female infanticide, dowry deaths, child marriage."
Highlighting the importance of education, Farhan said, "At the basis of everything is education. Educate the girl child. When someone else is planning things for you, it is difficult. For instance, if you want go on a holiday and I plan it for you then there is no fun. If I can plan my own life and completely, I will be in charge of everything."
