Kishore Kumar is synonymous with flawless songs that are rich with his flirty voice and impeccable pitch. One of his other specialties is his ability to croon a number as if it were sung by the onscreen actor himself! Such is his talent that even after decades of his death, we still remember him for his contribution to Bollywood. While we are all familiar with this famous melodies, on his birth anniversary today, we are taking you on a musical journey of his not-so-famous yet fabulous ditties…enjoy!
Badi sooni sooni (Mili): This sad number will make you weep because Kishora Da will touch all your sensitive chords. It also helps that Amitabh Bachchan spins his magic on the screen and your thoughts automatically drift to the dying Mili aka Jaya Bachchan. Sigh.
Manzilein apni jagah hai (Sharabi): The movie is filled with such hits like Jahan chaar yaar, De de pyaar de, and Intehan ho gayi, but here’s another gem that most people might have overlooked! Listen to Big B talking about life’s many tragedies, in Kishore Da’s mesmerising voice, of course. It’s an evergreen number that has not got its due yet. Hopefully, people will start playing this on loop soon.
Tere bina zindagi se (Aandhi): We might remember this track for Lata Mangeshkar’s exceptional signing, but what we don’t realise is that Kishore Da has an equally amazing para that will remind you of still nights, a shining moon, and your beloved.
Baabul ka ghar (Daata): Vidai songs are great. But when Kishore Kumar decides to sing one, it becomes a screen-stealer! This lesser-known bridal number will make you emotional for sure. Listen closely to the lyrics. *Sniff sniff*
Maaro bharkar pichkari (Dhanwan): Move over ‘Rang Barse’, here’s one of the most meaningful holi songs ever! It might not be a fast-paced ditty like other holi versions, but it packs a punch nevertheless. Of course, Kishore’ baritone and the meaningful words add beauty to the song.
