A page from the personal diary of Meiyang Chang
I vividly remember the day when I auditioned for Indian Idol 3 in Kolkata. My friends forced me to go for the auditions. Kolkata, you might be aware of, has a very hot and humid climate. I was standing in the queue for hours and hours and felt I would collapse. But later I found myself inside an A/C room. It was heavenly. At the venue, I observed fellow contestants who were super talented, classically trained, and what not. I was nervous and I was so tired that I wanted the process to wrap up fast. On TV, you see only the contestant and the judges, but inside the audition room there are lights, cameramen, sound guys, and many other people. You get intimidated by the entire ambience. But I don’t know how and why, I enjoyed a lot. I was not scared at all.
I got selected and after the show, the amount of love and appreciation people showered on me was overwhelming. I wanted to sing but later I got the opportunity to host, dance and act in films. The journey has been amazing till date. I enjoy being part of the entertainment industry. It’s not about glamour or money, but passion and hunger to perform better. Life has moved on but Indian Idol still holds a special place in my heart. After all, it all began from there.
