TV has become a huge medium now: Gracy Singh

Gracy Singh

Gracy Singh might have disappeared from the silver screen for many years now, but all that's going to change as she is all set to make a comeback on TV. The actress, who was a part of huge projects like Lagaan and Munnabhai MBBS, took a break from the rush to concentrate in herself. Apparently, the actress was giving dance more importance than acting. She was so focused on her dancing career that acting took a backseat.

But we will be seeing Gracy Singh on TV soon, thanks to &TV’s upcoming show Santoshi Maa, where Singh plays the titular role.

In a quick conversation with Tellychakkar.com, the actress spoke about her comeback, new show and more…

Why did you choose to play the character of a Goddess?

I wanted to experience a character like this. I am myself a big devotee of Santoshi Maa. In fact, I was into spirituality in a big way. I may have been away from acting, but I was involved in spiritual practices via my dance troupe where I had to perform goddess acts that I directed and made. This is the reason I took up this show and I try to relate with the women of today’s times. My intention of taking up this show was to spread message of women empowerment and why we worship women in our country and there is something behind the power.

Tell us something about your character as Santoshi Maa?

My character is a mixture of love, peace and contentment. She is a problem-solver. So in the show, the message is that how you connect with your eternal peace. I relate to God as I relate to people in my life.

According to you, how has TV changed over the years?

TV has become big and grand. It’s not less than a big movie now. The making of a show, story, setup, concept, costume and publicity have changed. Earlier there was no publicity like this.

Santoshi Maa more of a women’s show, so don’t you think your viewership will be restricted?

No, Amaant was also a show based on women, but everyone used to watch it. I don’t think that this show will only have women viewership.

Have you watched the movie Santoshi Maa?

I have watched the movie. But there is no similarity in the movie and the show, other than the song.

Which is your favourite historical show?

I used to watch Mahabharat and loved Lord Krishna as well. Though I am Sikh, I somehow feel connected to Krishna.

How has life changed from Amaanat to Santoshi Maa?

Though I was not acting, I enjoyed each moment of my life. It was my dream to create my own dance troop and wanted to do something in the classical genre. I feel if Santoshi Maa is with me, then the power is there.

How much time do you take to don the look of Santoshi Maa?

It takes me two hours. But as I have a habit of wearing heavy ornaments for my stage shows and dance performance, it’s not that hectic for me.

Lastly, tell us something about your co-stars?

They all are great, brilliant actors. Within few days our bonding has become very well. We share a great rapport.

All the best, Gracy… for your new show!
