I was very rude and said things which I shouldn't had: Sajid Khan

Sajid Khan

Wit and warmth come to life in Sajid Khan. One of the most talented filmmakers from Bollywood, Sajid Khan, had a great time yesterday (December 1) at the press meet of Zee TV’s upcoming kids’ reality show India’s Best Dramebaaz. The bindaas man spoke about the show, movies, best friend Sajid Nadiawala, struggle, regrets, love life and more…

Excerpts:

While earlier you had mentioned that you dislike kids, how are you going to cope up with them in the show?

Well, I think woh gusse ki age khatam ho gayi hai. More or less I believe 70 percent of the kids are here to have fun and only 30 percent are here to win. I don’t like when parents pressurize their kids to keep achieving. I am trying to ease down and gel with them.

Talking about kids, how is your bonding with your sister Farah’s (Khan) little ones?

I call them 35… 35… 35. I tell them that I love them all 35 percent each. So in that way nobody feels bad. If I am getting anything for them, then it has to be in equal quantity, size and flavour to avoid any kind of fights. So now you will know how expert I have become at handling kids.

Taking you back, we all know that you were a big dramebaaz in your young age, right?

I had a very adventurous life. I was a big time liar and a fraud. I have witnessed very bad days in my early age. After my father lost money on films, we were deprived. Our house was sold off so we had to shift to a slum area. I even committed petty crimes due to poverty. (Continous with teary eyes) After my father’s death, I realized that I had to make money.  I thought of entertaining people as I was very good at it. But only on one condition, that to make people laugh, I need my pockets to be filled with money. With that goal, I started living a different life. I have realized one thing that if you can entertain people from your heart then you will surely get noticed and valued.

When did you realize that ‘Yes, I can do it?

We had a college fest and all of sudden, the mike stopped working and students started pushing me on the stage as I was very good at mimicry. So for 20 minutes, I continuously mimicked famous Bollywood stars. That moment bought me lot of confidence and made me feel that I could really entertain. Then I started performing at weddings. When I was 16, I made a visiting card stating ‘Host, dost, DJ and mimicry artist.’ I still remember distributing those cards at Santacruz station. As we didn’t have a lane line at home, I had mentioned my neighbour’s contact number on it.

So, now that we know you’ve had a roller coaster life, do you have any regrets?

Yes, I regret fighting with my best friend Sajid Nadiawala. I think he also regrets it. We both are soul brothers. We both have witnessed unfortunate events. We have been friends for seventeen years and it’s gone kaput for the past two years. Satra saal ki dosti mai do saal ki dushmani allowed hai. We knew that one day we would comeback, no matter what.

Any myths about you that you want to break?

People think that I am very arrogant, but I am not. I would agree that I was very rude and said things which I shouldn’t have. I was making statement just for the sake of it. Like my films can never flop. My films would definitely earn Rs 200 crore in theaters, and so on.  I used to say things without realizing how it would come back to bite me. After Humshakals, the bashing of the Sajids was unnecessary.

Are you single?

I am very much single. I am not a kiss and tell person. I will never bad mouth a woman. If you ask me about my ex, I would just smile and not utter a word. Having said that, I was a big bas***d in my college days. Forget about double timing, I used to triple time!

What are your upcoming projects and will you cast Jacqueline Fernandez in them?

Pucho pucho karare karare questions (laughs). I have a film with Disney, and another one with my friend Sajid Nadiawala.

Sajid, when do you plan to settle down?

Why should I settle down? I am very happy being single.

After proving your directing skills, any plans to come in front of camera?

I am starting my new TV comedy show that the entire family can sit together and enjoy.  I can’t reveal much about the project, but I would be hosting it.

Sajid, it was truly fun interviewing you. Hope you get lots of love and success in life!
