The genius behind everyone’s best childhood memories, Walt Disney celebrates his 114th birthday on December 5 and Star Movies Select HD remembers the legend by showcasing ‘Saving Mr. Banks’ and ‘Mary Poppins’ on ‘Select Sundays: A Tribute to Walt Disney’.
Star Movies Select HD premieres two extraordinary movies ‘Saving Mr. Banks’ at 1 pm and ‘Mary Poppins’ at 3pm on Sunday, December 13, 2015.
Spurred on by a promise he made to his daughters, Walt Disney (Tom Hanks) embarks on what would become a 20-year quest to obtain the movie rights to "Mary Poppins." The author, P.L. Travers (Emma Thompson), proves to be an uncompromising curmudgeon who has no intention of letting her beloved characters become mangled in the Hollywood machine. However, when the books stop selling and she finds herself in need of money, Travers reluctantly agrees to consider Disney's proposition. Experience the extraordinary true story of how Marry Poppins took flight to ultimately make it one of the most endearing films in cinematic history, in Saving Mr. Banks on Dec 13 at 1pm.
Directed by Robert Stevenson, Mary Poppins narrates the story of Jane (Karen Dotrice) and Michael (Matthew Garber), the children of the wealthy and uptight Banks family, who are faced with the prospect of a new nanny. They are pleasantly surprised by the arrival of the magical Mary Poppins (Julie Andrews). Embarking on a series of fantastical adventures with Mary and her Cockney performer friend, Bert (Dick Van Dyke), the siblings try to pass on some of their nanny's sunny attitude to their preoccupied parents (David Tomlinson, Glynis Johns). Filled with spellbinding effects and many wondrous, endearing moments – how else would you possibly describe this timeless treat but “supercalifragilisticexpialidocious”!
Remember Walt Disney on ‘Select Sundays’ by watching Saving Mr. Banks at 1 pm and Mary Poppins at 3pm exclusively on Star Movies Select HD.
