I am looking out for a role mightier than Samrat Singh Rathore - Mohit Malik

Mohit Malik

Talented actor Mohit Malik is presently making the best use of his break, after enjoying a great journey with his shows Doli Armaanon Ki and Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. Some great family time, a well-earned vacation has now gotten the man into perfect shape yet again, and he is rearing to go now!!

In an exclusive conversation with Tellychakkar.com, Mohit talks about his life post Doli and Jhalak, future plans, and much more…

How has life been, now that you are enjoying your break?

It’s indeed been joyous, as I have got some family time after many years. Soon after I moved out of Doli Armaanon Ki, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa happened and there was no time to even breathe. I have been relaxing a lot, and travelling has been the passion that I have picked up during my break. Overall, this has been a rejuvenating break.

So explain your Jhalak journey?

Well, Jhalak has to be a nice memory that will remain with me forever. I had a great journey, from entering the show as a complete non-dancer to whatever I achieved all through the show. Bagging immunity balls, to getting recognized by Bollywood greats like Rishi Kapoor was indeed a boost to my career. The fact that I have impressed many Bollywood celebrities makes me happy. When I started the show, I never believed that I will survive till the finale. That was in itself a huge surprise for me. Yes, I feel I should have won it for the amount of efforts I put into it. Nevertheless, I have come out as a winner and that is what matters.

You had a remarkable journey as Samrat Singh Rathore in Doli Armaanon Ki. Do you harbour a feeling of sadness that you had to move out of the show?

Frankly speaking, Doli has been and will be very special to me. I for one know the amount of work and energy I had put into the show from day one. Left to me, I would have never quit Doli Armaanon Ki; I would have rather continued to be part of it in addition to being part of Jhalak. I feel that Doli had a longer life span, and we could have achieved that if I remained a part of it. The day I heard the show is going off air, I felt very sad.

So do you mean to say you regret the decision of opting out of Doli?

See, I was left with no option. As I said, the channel wanted me to exclusively be with Doli and not take Jhalak. And for every actor, a growth curve is necessary. I will not call it regret, but I have a hurt feeling somewhere within me that I was stopped from continuing Doli.

How is your rapport now with Zee TV and with the Producer Pearl Grey?

Well, it’s absolutely fine. I was in fact invited to perform for Zee TV, but could not make it as I was not in the country. With Pearl, I have had the best of associations. She is the best creative person I have known, and I hope she considers me when she is making her next show (smiles).

As a couple, you and Addite have had your dream come true. While you did well in the dance reality show, Addite opened her café along with friend Simple. Tell us about this new venture of Addite?

Well, it’s a tremendous feat to achieve for Addite. Her café is doing great, and in fact she now has ideas of opening new outlets. The best part is that she managed to get it functional all by herself, with no basic support coming from me. I was busy with Jhalak when she launched her café, and I must say she’s made me proud. Amidst her hectic schedule, she used to be always present on the shoot day of Jhalak to cheer me. She’s been my lucky mascot and without her presence, I could not have made it so far in the competition.

What are your goals now? There’s a news of you having signed a show for Life OK, produced by Franklin Pictures.

To tell you honestly, I was approached for it. But there is nothing beyond it. I have not signed for anything yet, and I am looking for interesting offers.

So what next for you?

I would like to see myself being part of a well-etched love story. Or I will also say that I am looking for something mightier than Samrat Singh Rathore. The rubber band has been stretched with respect to the roles I can take up, and my next role has to be big enough for me to accept it.

Mohit, here’s wishing you luck!!
