#TrailerReview: Neerja will give you Goosebumps

Neerja

What do you call a 23-year-old girl who gave her life to save others? What do you say to the parents of such a brave and beautiful soul? Twenty eight years after model-turned-air hostess Neerja Bhanot’s death comes a commercial movie on her life…and especially her death.

The trailer, which has a chilling feel of doom, opens with a multi-language news bulletin on a plane’s hijacking. The scene quickly cuts to the bright, smart, talented and achingly beautiful Neerja aka Sonam Kapoor, who is preparing for her flight. The trailer has a docu-drama feel, taking us deeper into the plot.

The former model’s conversations with her parents are relatable, subtle and absolutely heart-breaking. Since we know that fate of the ill-fated flight and the air-hostess, Sonam’s scenes with her parents look even more shattering and powerful.

The trailer is dark, yet not gloomy. It has bright sparks of everyday life, along with the impeding danger of hijacking. We don’t know how they have achieved to give us Goosebumps, smiles, nostalgia and tears…all at the same time.

Sonam, in a neat bob and fierce red lips, plays her part well. From handling her possessive parents to tackling the terrorists, she breathes life into her character. Shabana Azmi, who plays Sonam’s mother, is flawless.

Her transition from an affectionate mother to a worried-sick parent is on-point. Guess that’s not surprising since it’s Azmi we are talking about. Music composer and singer Shekhar Ravjiani has a small part in the movie as well!

Just to give you guys a bit of history, Neerja Bhanot was killed by terrorists on the hijacked Pan Am Flight 73. The courageous girl, who would have turned 23 two days after her murder, was posthumously  awarded with the Ashoka Chakra.

The movie releases on February 19, 2016.
