summet-raghavan

Sumeet Raghavan, blessed with an inherent acting talent akin to a chameleon, continues to astound us with his versatility. Currently, entertaining us as an alien on SAB TV’s <em>Badi Dooooor Se Aaye Hain</em>, he is definitely an inspiration to many young actors on TV. In an exclusive conversation with Tellychakkar.com, Sumeet talks about his show, comedy, reality shows, Bollywood and more…read on:

You have been in the industry for a decade now, so how do you think comedy involved over these years?

I think comedy has now become more natural and subtle. Definitely, times have changed and with so many acting schools around, actors know the art by now. I would agree that the black and white era had a different humor, but this era is also brilliant. I have done many good shows like Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, Bhagwan Bachaye Inko, Tu Tu Main Main, Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, so I know the hard work that goes into a great show.

What would you do if you met an actual alien in real life?

There are many aliens that I meet every day. And those are human beings. The one who has a car, but doesn’t know the rules of driving is an alien. The one who litter around is also an alien for me.

Do you think looks are important for an actor?

Yes, it is important. It’s an actor’s job to stay fit. They should keep themselves updated with news around the globe.

What matters to you more- money or script?

After working for 35 years in the industry, a good script is something that matters to me the most. According to me, good work fetches good money.

Any secret about you that you would like to reveal?

My life is not Bigg Boss that I have secrets to reveal. I am an open book. But yes, I would like to share that I have been to learning guitar for a year now.

Your earlier hit show Sarabhai vs Sarabhai was a cult. But has comedy has lost its shine now?

I would not say that it has lost its shine as Sarabhai vs Sarabhai will remain evergreen. There are a few shows and movies that had a great writing and Sarabhai vs Sarabhai was one of them.

You have never been in the limelight. A conscious decision?

I don’t really take effort to hog the limelight or be spotted at page three parties. Passing such unwanted comments to stay in news is definitely a big no for me. I would love to stay in the limelight for my good work.

Apart from comedy, what do you want explore as an actor?

I want to play an out and out villain on TV, and I think it will suit me well.

What about your Bollywood aspirations?

There is a wide market open for stars, but I want to be part of films, which are a slice of life.

Your favourite comedian?

My favourite comedian is Dilip Joshi. I have worked with him before, so I know what kind of an actor he is. In fact, there’s more to Dilip that is yet to be discovered.

Who is your favorite co-star?

Luckily, I have been blessed with good co-stars.

Lastly, do reality shows excite you?

I find no reality in reality shows these days. There should be more transparency involved. The sad part is that deserving candidate don’t win. I would never participate in reality shows, but would love to host it.

Sumeet, here’s wishing you luck!
