Kareena and Arjun sparkle as Ki & Ka

In perhaps the most progressive takes on genders and role reversals, R Balki’s upcoming fair Ki & Ka’s trailer is already a winner. Tackling the most important issue of what men and women are supposed to do, the trailer takes us through Kareena Kapoor-Khan and Arjun Kapoor’s life. They are a modern-day couple where the woman is ambitious, career-driven and the breadwinner while the husband is a homemaker who keeps their world balanced. Even though both seem to be quite happy with the arrangement, we are sure that they are headed for a massive battle of egos or are they? Is Balki going to teach us all a lesson in being gender-neutral? Or as the trailer so eloquently puts it, ‘Genders Don’t Matter’ (Striling, Pulling, Something)? Actually, he even sports a 'mangulsutra' in one of the sequences. Oooh. All said and done, it’s a fresh take on the epic battle of the sexes where the movie will try to answer the gender roles set on us by the society. Despite the progressive overtone, the trailer does try to categorise certain qualities as ‘wifely’ and certain as ‘manly’. Kareena even says, "he is my wife...not husband!" Just because he’s at home taking care of their daily needs. So are they stereotyping or fighting such notions? We wouldn’t know till we flock the screens on April 1, 2016. While Arjun looks adorable cooking and fussing over his career-oriented wife, Kareena is a delight to watch as she chases her goals with her house-husband by her side. Their pairing is funky, relatable and the two sparkle bright as a chilled-out duo. Throughout the trailer, ‘Ki’ and ‘Ka’ make an appearance, sometimes rather forcefully.
