I lived the role of Selfie Mausi every day: Siddharth Sagar

Siddharth Sagar

He is witty, smart and humble. At a tender age of twenty two, this young soul has already created a niche for him. Known for his Selfie Mausi and Nasser avatars, he is already recognised as one of the prominent comedy stars of the country along with veterans like Kapil Sharma, Bharti Singh, Krushna Abhishek and Sudesh Lehri.

Yes, we are talking about Siddharth Sagar, who has written his own success story with Life OK’s show Comedy Classes. Before the show shuts shop, in an exclusive conversation with Tellychakkar.com, Siddharth opened up about his show, his journey, controversies and many more.

 Excerpts..

From Comedy Circus to Comedy Classes, how the journey has been?

I was the winner of Comedy Circus Ke Ajoobe and then went on to do Comedy Circus Ke Mahabali and Pritam Pyare Aur Woh. Post these shows I got the chance to be a part of Comedy Classes, where I started playing the characters of Selfie Mausi and Nasser. As the show progressed, I started enjoying my roles so much so that I even started reading the script with the typical accent and style of the characters.

When Comedy Nights Bachao was launched, many comedians including Bharti, Krushna and Sudesh left the Comedy Classes to join the other venture. Why didn’t you join their team? Was it pressurizing for you to carry on with a show all by yourself?

Not at all. On the contrary I was really excited to carry on with my new responsibilities. I knew it very well then that I had to take charge of the situation in a responsible manner and I am relay proud that I did it. I really liked the phase and I am happy that even without big names we have been able to run the series successfully. And now, coming to your first question, I didn’t join Bacaho at that time, as I was completely occupied with Comedy Classes then and wanted to continue with the on going only. Now, that I will have some time, I might join Bachao as well, but nothing is confirmed as of now.

Do you dream of having your own show like Krushna or Kapil?

Of course I do, but I am more of a team player (laugh). For me, having a great team, who can compliment me is more important than to have a show of my own along with a group of artists.

Who is you favourite, Kapil or Krushna?

Kapil, I believe that Kapil is the greatest stand-up comedian in the country, while Krushna is one super talented comedy actor we ever had in the industry. Both of them have different flavours in their comedy, so it is really hard for me to choose between them.

It is often said that Krusha steals the lime light. What do you have to say about that?

I have never felt that way. Krushna bhai is a super talented artist. Krushna bhai, Sudesh ji, Bharti and I, we all have very different style of comedy. Among our audience, there are few who love Krushna’s style, while others are fond of my genre of comedy. So, I don’t think that he steals lime light with others not getting much chance.

Comedy Classes recently wrapped up. What is your reaction about the development?

Of course, I am feeling really bad that a wonderful journey like Comedy Classes came to an end. Though nothing is on the pipeline right now, I really hope that we come up with a second season soon.

Life OK as a channel has less reach than that of Colors. Do you think that is the reason for Comedy Classes not being as successful as other comedy series?

To some extent it is. Well initially when Comedy Classes started then the team paid more attention to make the show a successful one. With time flying by and the show doing well, the makers didn’t want to experiment with the format. On the other hand, I feel that would we have tried to explore more, things would have been different.

Recently, a piece of news hit the media about your mother and your alleged girlfriend Subuhi Joshi having an ugly spat. How do you react on such situation?

(With a smile) See, I don’t react to anything at all. That’s the best way I believe.

What are your upcoming projects?

I can’t say anything as of now, but I promise to my fans that I will be back on screen soon.

We completely agree with you Siddharth and hope to enjoy your performance soon on screen.
