No shoot in Tollyland; technicians demand dues clearances

The world has come to a stand still in the Bengali TV industry.

Shooting of some of Bengali TV soaps like Zee Bangla's Bhutu, Goyenda Ginni and Star Jalsha’s Potol Kumar Gaanwala have been called off as technicians were not getting paid for working overtime.

As per media reports, the technicians have been going all the way to complete the shoots but sadly their efforts were not being appreciated. After a thorough discussion, the crew has decided to stop working.

The production houses against whom the allegations have been made are Shree Venkatesh Films, Surinder Films and Raj Chakraborty Productions.

Apart from the above mentioned serials, shooting of more than 10 other serials, including Bedeni Moluyar Kwatha and Kiranmala, have also been stopped.

When Tellychakkar.com got in touch with Aparna Ghatak,  General Secretary (Federation of Cine & Workers of Eastern India), to know about her take on the same, she said, “We haven’t called for any strike, we have raised our voice to highlight our problem. We are just asking for the money that we deserve. Technicians are supposed to work for 10 hours but if they are working over time then they deserve their extra payment. We are asking what we deserve.”

“Our executive body will organize a meeting where we will discuss the matter and see how it can be solved,” she added.

Commenting on the issue, Sushanta Das, director and producer (Tent Cinema), opined, “There are certain codes of conduct that one is supposed to follow. Before taking any ultimatum like calling off shooting one has to send a prior notice but in this case nothing of that sort was done. I really hope the issue will be solved soon.”

As per current status, meetings with both parties are happening to solve the crisis.
