After being denied a release by the CBFC, Lipstick Under My Burkha that was produced under the Prakash Jha productions banner, TV soap opera queen Ekta Kapoor had taken the onus on her to present the film directed by Alankrita Shrivastava.
The trailer launch of the film happened today at The View, Bombay, where Ekta Kapoor, Konkona Sen Sharma, Ratna Pathak Shah, Ahana Kumra and Plabika Borthakur were present.
Ekta seemed very enthusiastic about the trailer launch. She bared her heart while talking to the media. She confessed that while she watched it, she found it to be a very stark and entertaining film that questioned her “Do you have the guts to take me on?” She further stated that she had the most honest internal conversation after she saw the film.
Talking frankly about the film and her emotions attached to it, she stated women feel that it has become a second nature to them to be shy about their own simplest sexual fantasies and desires as though it is not allowed.
After the whole controversy that ensued post the CBFC refused to certify the film, Ekta who has a strong feminist pulse herself got onto the bandwagon to present the film. During the press conference at the trailer launch of the film she also confessed, “the film stared her in the eye and said as a producer you will be making a financial decision but as a woman it is time you made a decision from the heart and I did.”
That sure was a fantastic statement and quite bold as well. Ekta Kapoor has been the undisputed queen of television for years now; she has made a mark of herself in everything she delved into. We’re sure her efforts to bring these sensitive issues pertaining to women through Lipstick Under My Burkha too will pay off!
