KOLKATA: Film and television actress Debjani Chattopadhyay agreed to be a part of the serial Jaahanara as the makers offered her a role that she has never essayed before.
Jaahanara airs on Colors Bangla and is produced by Baabu Banik Production and Friends Communication. The soap features Debjani in the role of Ruksar, who is a progressive single working mother.
The actress said in a statement to TellyChakkar, ‘I told Baabu that I don’t want to play roles that I have already played; offer me something different from what I do and then only I will do (the show). Next, when he narrated the character to me, I found it really interesting, relevant, and realistic.’
‘My character, Ruksar, is a progressive single working mother. I have never played a Muslim character before,’ added the actress, who was previously seen in prominent roles in soaps like Khokababu and Jaroar Jhumko.
Debjani said that triple talaq is not the main basis of Jaahanara.
‘Triple talaq is an important part of the narrative as it is a burning issue. But it is not that triple talaq is the main basis of this story. This story is about women’s struggle and women empowerment,’ stated the Durga Sohay actress.
Debjani concluded the interview by saying that she is very comfortable playing Ruksar, as the character does not require her to put on heavy makeup and wear heavy attire. Here, she is seen in a salwar kameez complemented by simple makeup.
