If I had hit a woman, she wouldn't have survived: Salman Khan

MUMBAI: Amidst the #metoo movement, which is gaining huge momentum, there is a video of Salman Khan doing the rounds in which he spoke about the incident when he had hit Aishwarya Rai.

Almost two decades ago, Salman and Aishwarya were into a serious relationship and madly in love with each other. However, the relationship turned sour owing to Salman’s possessive behaviour towards Ash. They eventually broke up.

In 2002, Aishwarya, in an interview with a leading publication, had revealed the hardships she went through in the relationship. She had said that Salman used to doubt that she was having an affair with her co-stars. He would also physically hit her. She further stated that she didn’t want to lose her self-respect and that’s why she decided to end the relationship.

In the viral video of Salman, a journalist is seen asking about him hitting a woman. Of course, she was referring to Aishwarya. To that, Salman said that since a woman has said this, he wouldn't like to comment on it.

He went on to say that he was asked this same question by another journalist also. At that time, he had banged the table with so much force that it was going to break. He stated that if he hit someone in a fit of anger, then that woman wouldn’t have survived it.

The #metoo movement became strong in India after Tanushree Dutta's allegations of sexual harassment against Nana Patekar and Ganesh Acharya. After Tanushree, many women revealed the names of men who harassed and sexually assaulted them in the industry.
