Hollywood Updates

MUMBAI: We bring to you some fresh news from the world of Hollywood.

A Prophet to be made into TV series

Jacques Audiard-directed movie A Prophet is being made into a TV series by producer Marco Cherqui. Cherqui has teamed up with Why Not Productions' founder Pascal Caucheteux to adapt the 2009 released crime film.

‘The series will neither be a prequel nor a sequel but rather a reboot. The series will be different from the film in the same way that Matteo Garrone's movie Gomorrah was different from its TV adaptation,’ said Cherqui.

The TV series is being penned by Abdel Raouf Dafri, the screenwriter of the International Emmy Award-winning Braquo in collaboration with Nicolas Peufaillit.

The series will follow the trajectory of a young Arab man from an underprivileged suburb who ends up behind bars and becomes a different man. Actor Tahar Rahim played the leading role in Audiard's movie and delivered a breakthrough performance.

Music video of Girls Like You Volume 2 released

Grammy-winning band Maroon 5 has unveiled the Girls Like You Volume 2 music video. The original music video has surpassed one billion views on YouTube. The single remains at number one on Billboard Hot 100 for four consecutive weeks.

Inspired by the international impact and influence of the original blockbuster visual, the band and director David Dobkin have debuted this second installment, which offers a light-hearted take featuring the same cast of leading ladies like Ellen DeGeneres, Jennifer Lopez, Gal Gadot, and Mary J. Blige.

Girls Like You also features rapper Cardi B.

The original Girls Like You video debuted on the kick-off date of the US leg of the Red Pill Blues in May.

As the latest leg of Red Pill Blues world tour concludes, the group plans to return to the road in 2019.

Ariana Grande to quit social media

Singer Ariana Grande plans to quit social media following her split from Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson.

Just two days after it was revealed that the 25-year-old singer and Davidson have called off their engagement, Grande announced an internet hiatus, reported by publication.

‘Ok today was very special and I am so grateful I was able to be there,’ Grande said in a post on her Instagram stories, which has since been deleted in reference to Tuesday's taping of A Very Wicked Halloween.

‘Time to say bye bye again to the internet for just a little bit. It's hard not to bump news and stuff that I'm not trying to see... It's very sad and we're all trying very hard to keep going. Love you and thank you for being here always,’ Grande added.

The announcement came just a few hours after Grande spoke candidly about her ‘anxiety’ in a different post.

‘Can't believe I almost let my anxiety ruin this for me today!’ the singer captioned a photo of herself sporting a green lip shade.

Kim Kardashian slams 'mom shamers'

Reality TV star Kim Kardashian has slammed ‘mom shamers’ for criticizing her for a photograph in which her two-year-old son Saint appeared to be using a pacifier.

Defending herself, Kim silenced her haters as she confirmed that what appeared to be a pacifier was, in fact, a well-known lollipop shaped in the style of a dummy, reported by publication.

‘Missing my babies! P.S. mom shamers it's not a pacifier, he's eating candy,’ the 37-year-old wrote on Instagram along with the picture of herself holding her nine-month-old daughter Chicago while holding hands with Saint.

Kim also shares 4-year-old North with husband and rapper Kanye West.

Knightley bans daughter from watching a few Disney movies

Actress Keira Knightley says her daughter is banned from watching some of the Disney movies, including Cinderella.

Knightley is currently making the rounds to promote Walt Disney Pictures' upcoming movie The Nutcracker and the Four Realms.

But the 33-year-old actress confessed on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that she is not a fan of every movie the studio has produced, particularly when it involves Disney princesses who don't uphold her feminist values.

As a result, the actress has forbidden her three-year-old daughter, Edie Knightley Righton, from watching certain movies.

Cinderella, which released in 1950, is banned, Knightley said, ‘because she waits around for a rich guy to rescue her. Don't! Rescue yourself. Obviously! And this is the one that I'm quite annoyed about because I really like the film, but The Little Mermaid (is banned too).

‘I mean, the songs are great, but do not give your voice up for a man. Hello! But the problem with The Little Mermaid is I love The Little Mermaid. That one's a little tricky - but I'm keeping to it’.

Not all Disney movies are off-limits.

Finding Dory is a ‘big favorite in our house,’ Knightley told Ellen DeGeneres, who voiced the blue tang.

Frozen is huge and Moana is totally fine.’

Accepting change is not easy for Chyler Leigh

Supergirl star Chyler Leigh says accepting change is not easy for her.

‘On a personal level, change is a hard thing for me,’ Leigh said in a statement to a leading publication. The actress, who plays Alex Danvers in the show, feels there are ‘phenomenal’ stars attached to the project.

‘We have a phenomenal cast and you build wonderful relationships with these people, so I don't want anyone to leave. In the scene where Alex says goodbye to Winn, that was me saying goodbye to Jeremy (Jeremy Jordan who plays Winn) and I was sobbing. In between takes, I had to walk away because it was so hard to look at him and we had developed such a great relationship. It still makes me cry. I miss him.’

‘But we have wonderful people coming into the show this season. I'm really excited about who we have coming in.’

Supergirl is an epic drama based on the story of Kara Zor-El (aka Supergirl). When Kara (played by Melissa Benoist) was 12 years old, she escaped the doomed planet of Krypton, at the same time as her infant cousin Kal-El (aka Superman). The female superhero grew up in the shadow of her foster sister, Alex, and learned to conceal the phenomenal powers she shares with her famous cousin.

After years of keeping her superhuman powers a secret, Kara has embraced her abilities and is on her way to becoming the hero she was always destined to be.

The show, which is back with season four internationally, is aired in India on Zee Café.

Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga to star in third Annabelle movie

Actors Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga will reprise their roles as Ed and Lorraine Warren in New Line’s The Conjuring spin-off, the untitled third Annabelle movie.

Wilson and Farmiga starred as the real-life paranormal investigators in 2013's The Conjuring, which set the franchise in motion, and in The Conjuring 2.

The third installment in the Annabelle series is also the sixth film in what New Line has called the Conjuring Universe, which has seen its five movies gross over $1.56 billion worldwide.

The Nun, the most recent release, became the highest-grossing film in the franchise, surpassing $359 million worldwide.

That spinoff focused on the demon nun that came to life in The Conjuring 2 from a painting by Ed Warren and later attacked Lorraine Warren. Annabelle was introduced in The Conjuring as a demon doll in their artifacts room.

The story in the upcoming Annabelle movie centers on the doll awakening the room's evil, which sets its sights on a new target -- the Warrens' 10-year-old daughter, Judy, to be portrayed by Mckenna Grace. Madison Iseman has also been cast.

Gary Dauberman, who also wrote the script, will be making his directorial debut. James Wan is producing for Atomic Monster and Peter Safran is producing for the Safran Company. Michael Clear and Michelle Morrissey will executive produce the yet untitled Annabelle project, which will be released on 3 July 2019.

Roseanne Barr upset after The Conners kills her character

Actress–comedian Roseanne Barr has lashed out after her character was killed off in the premiere of The Conners. She is upset about the narrative's turn.

‘I ain't dead bitches,’ Barr tweeted.

Barr and her spiritual teacher Rabbi Shmuley Boteach also released a statement regarding the on-screen death.

‘While we wish the very best for the cast and production crew of The Conners, all of whom are deeply dedicated to their craft and were Roseanne's cherished colleagues, we regret that ABC chose to cancel Roseanne by killing off the Roseanne Conner character. That it was done through an opioid overdose lent an unnecessary grim and morbid dimension to an otherwise happy family show,’ the statement read.

Barr also slammed the cancellation of ‘Roseanne’, calling it a result of ‘fear, hubris, and a refusal to forgive’.

In May, ‘Roseanne’ was canceled after Barr posted a tweet comparing former Obama aide Valerie Jarrett to an ape. The Conners spin-off was ordered in mid-June.

Idris Elba joins Taylor Swift in movie adaptation of Cats

Actor Idris Elba is in final negotiations to join the film adaptation of the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical Cats.

Tom Hooper will direct the star-studded movie, also starring Ian McKellen, Jennifer Hudson, James Corden, and Taylor Swift.

This marks Elba's second feline role following his take on Shere Khan in 2016's The Jungle Book.

The Universal Pictures epic will hit theatres on December 20.

Cats will be produced by Working Title Films in association with Monumental Pictures and The Really Useful Group, and executive produced by Steven Spielberg, Lloyd Webber, and Angela Morrison.

Elba is currently filming Hobbs & Shaw with Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, and can next be seen in the Netflix comedy series Turn Up Charlie, which he also co-created and executive produced.

He returns next year to his starring role in the hit BBC series Luther, which he also executive produces.
