KOLKATA: Bengali TV actress Chandni Saha, known for tele serials like Bene Bou, Kache Aay Soi and Krishnakoli Ami Tarei Boli, feels that every actor should portray a mythological character at least once in their career.
The actress is presently portraying the central role of Goddess Manasha in Colors Bangla’s show of the same name. This is her first serial in the mythological genre.
Sharing her opinion, Chandni said to TellyChakkar, “I feel mythology is very tough, and every actor should play a mythological role at least once in their career. While playing such roles, you need to be very conscious about your look, costume, and how you deliver your dialogues. As a part of this show, we don’t make conversations in colloquial and everyday language but ‘Shadhu-Bhasha’ (a literary variation of Bengali language). Remembering dialogues in this language for lengthy shots is really a difficult task.”
Highlighting another point, she further added, “While playing the role of human beings we can do a lot of activities while making conversations like we can touch our head or put hand over face. But when you are playing a goddess you cannot do so because the role is restricted. Also, such roles require a lot of physical energy; your facial gestures must make you look like a deity. Audience should be able to understand that you are playing a deity, not a human being.”
So, is Chandni enjoying her first mythological role? “It is very tough, but I am enjoying playing the role. After being part of the show for so long, my grip on the character has improved. I would like to play a mythological role again. I am not saying that I will do another one right after this show gets over, but in future if such a role comes my way it will be easier for me to get into the skin of the character,” she concluded.
Manasha launched this year on 29 January.
