Jodie Foster to direct, star in remake of Icelandic thriller

Actress Jodie Foster will direct, co-produce and star in an English-language remake of the thriller Woman at War, Icelands submission to the Foreign Language competition at the upcoming 91st Academy Awards.

The Icelandic movie centers on a music teacher who's escalating her sabotage against the local aluminum industry when she discovers that her adoption application has been approved and a baby girl is awaiting her in the Ukraine, reports of media.

The script won the best script prize in the Critics' Week section of the Cannes Film Festival.

Foster plans to relocate the setting to the American West. It will be her fifth directorial gig following Money Monster, The Beaver, Home for the Holidays and Little Man Tate.

She won best actress Oscars for The Accused and Silence of the Lambs.

'The Toxic Avenger' remake in works

A remake of the 1984 superhero comedy The Toxic Avenger is in the works.

Legendary Entertainment is developing it after acquiring the feature film rights, reported by leading publication.

Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz of Troma Entertainment, who produced the original comedy, will serve as producers.

The original film was set in the fictional town of Tromaville, New Jersey, and centered on a mild-mannered janitor at a health club who is chased out a second story window by bullies and lands in a drum of toxic waste.

The chemicals cause him to transform into the Toxic Avenger, who has superhuman size and strength and stands up to bullies and corruption.

The Toxic Avenger became successful after a long run as a midnight movie in New York, leading to the sequels The Toxic Avenger Part II, The Toxic Avenger Part III: The Last Temptation of Toxie and Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV.

The property also became a stage musical production, a children's cartoon TV series and a Marvel comic.

Queen's 'Bohemian Rhapsody' most-streamed song of 20th century

Bohemian Rhapsody, the iconic single by legendary British rock band Queen, is the world's most-streamed song from the 20th century, as well as the most-streamed Classic Rock song of all time, according to Universal Music Group.

The track was first released as a single on 31 October 1975.

On 10 December, the original song and official video for Bohemian Rhapsody, taken from the group's 1975 album A Night at the Opera, surpassed 1.6 billion streams globally across all major streaming services, reported by media.

The feature film of the same name, a biopic of the group and lead singer Freddie Mercury, which is one of the top films of 2018, is a key driver of the numbers in recent times.

Brian May, Queen's guitarist and founding member, said, "So the River of Rock Music has metamorphosed into streams! Very happy that our music is still flowing to the max!"

Lucian Grainge, Chairman and CEO of Universal Music Group, said, "Bohemian Rhapsody is one the greatest songs by one of the greatest bands in history. We are so proud to represent Queen and are thrilled to see the song still inspiring new fans around the world more than four decades after its release.

Jodie Whittaker to return as 'Doctor Who' in 2020

Actress Jodie Whittaker will return in her groundbreaking role a female time lord in Doctor Who, set to be back on global screens in early 2020.

The show was renewed by the BBC amid mixed overnight but strong consolidated numbers in the UK, and strong ratings in the US.

After a huge spike in female viewership, BBC announced Whittaker and showrunner Chris Chibnall would be back on Doctor Who for another season, reported Whittaker.

Unfortunately, fans will have to wait until 2020 for new episodes of the hit series.

The final episode of Season 11 aired on Sunday on BBC and will return for a New Year's special, titled Resolution, airing 1 January 2019.

Bradley Walsh, Mandip Gill and Tosin Cole, who star as the Doctor's friends, will also be back for Season 12.

Earlier in 2018, Whittaker said it was "liberating" to be the first female to take on the role of the Doctor.

"I have never approached a role thinking as how would a woman play this role because I just am one and I don't know if a guy has ever gone, 'How would a guy do this scene?'" she said during a press conference at San Diego Comic-Con.

Ariana Grande adds dates to her 'Sweetener' tour

Singer Ariana Grande has added multiple dates to her "Sweetener" world tour, scheduled to launch in March 2019.

Shows have been added in major cities including Chicago, Philadelphia, New York and Miami, reported by media.

Produced by Live Nation, the tour is slated to begin on 18 March 2019, in Albany, New York, and wrap in Toronto, Canada, on 26 June. Fifth Harmony's Normani and Social House will also perform on each stop.

Grande received two Grammy Award nominations last week: Best Pop Vocal Album for Sweetener and Best Pop Solo Performance for the album's God is a Woman.

While the tour bears the name of that album, Grande has been hard at work on a new album, which she says will be called "Thank U, Next", the smash single she released just two months after Sweetener dropped.

Jake Gyllenhaal to star in remake of Denmark's Oscar entry

Actor Jake Gyllenhaal will star in the remake of Danish thriller The Guilty, which is Denmark's foreign-language Oscar entry.

Bold Films, and Jake Gyllenhaal and Riva Marker's Nine Stories banner have acquired the rights to remake the movie, reported by leading publication.

The movie follows a police officer under investigation, who is demoted to desk work at an emergency call centre.

When he receives a terrified phone call from a kidnapped woman, he must battle his internal demons in order to save her.

It won the world cinema audience award at this year's Sundance Film Festival and was also named one of the top five foreign language films of 2018 by the National Board of Review.

Aniston likes watching TV naked

Actress Jennifer Aniston says she is a fan of watching TV nude.

Aniston played a round of Burning Questions during a recent appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, source reported on Monday.

For the Q-and-A game, celebrity guests sit down with DeGeneres and the two have to give an honest answer and then hit a big red button in front of them.

When asked "what was the weirdest thing you ever did to make money?", Aniston said, "I cut hair in the ninth grade and made $10 a haircut."

In one of the more personal questions, the host asked, "Besides making love, showering, or swimming, what is something you've enjoyed doing naked?"

The 49-year old actress said she was a fan of watching TV nude, which seemed to surprise the host.

"You watch TV naked?" DeGeneres asked.

"Is that weird?" Aniston asked. "I mean at night, you get into bed, and you watch TV!"

Here's how Lopez, Leah Remini first met

Actress Leah Remini has opened up about how her friendship with singer-actress Jennifer Lopez first emerged.

"I was friends with Marc Anthony (singer), and then he started dating Jennifer, and he was doing a film. I went to the premiere and he said, 'You have to meet Jennifer!' And he was telling Jennifer, 'You have to meet Leah and Angelo (Pagan),' my husband," Remini told by media.

"So we went to the premiere hoping she was gonna be ugly in real life," Remini joked.

"And then, when I was approaching her, I was like, 'I hope it's the lighting. Maybe she just looks good in here,' and as I got closer I was like, 'Oh damn, there's a lot of light right here and she looks really pretty."

"I even said that! I said, 'Goddamnit, why the f**k why are you so f**king pretty?' And she laughed," she continued.

"(Then) I was like, 'Ugh, I hope she's dumb, ya know? I was like, 'She could be dumb!' I wanted to find something and I didn't."

Lopez added with a smile: "And we fell in love right there."
