MUMBAI: There is no denying the fact that social media has become an integral part of life. Now, in an age of social media where a person's popularity is deemed by the number of followers on their social media accounts, a latest report revealed that some of Hollywood's top followed celebrities' Instagram accounts consist of a large number of fake followers. According to a survey conducted by UK-based website ICMP, Ellen DeGeneres, BTS and Kourtney Kardashian have emerged as the top accounts who have a massive number of fake followers. The list has taken celebs' Twitter and Instagram followers into account for the survey.
As per the showbiz celebrity category, the list shows that Ellen DeGeneres has the highest number of fake followers with 58 per cent of her Instagram followers being fake. Following Ellen and coming in a close second is K-pop band BTS. The seven-member South Korean band accounts for 48 per cent. The Kardashians also found a spot on the list and Kourtney Kardashian came third with 49 per cent. The percentage being respective to the number of fake followers they have to their total follow count.
Kourtney Kardashian’s sisters, Kim Kardashian and Khloé Kardashian, both had 44% of their followers listed as fake. Other notable names include Ariana Grande with 46%, Miley Cyrus with 45%, Kevin Hart with 44%, and Drake with 38%. Desi Girl Priyanka Chopra also featured on the list and came in on number 10 with 43 per cent fake followers, whereas Deepika Padukone ranks on number six with 45 per cent fake accounts following her on social media.
