Gazal Rai has no qualms in wearing short skirts if the role demands

Gazal Rai, better known as the mobile crazy Pooja of Left Right Left season one is keeping busy these days. Although she has not been seen on the tube for quite some time now, this cute Gujarati girl is currently enjoying flirting with her first love. Relax folks…her first love is not some hot guy, but theater. “Till date I have done ten Gujarati plays and my eleventh, Adosi vs Padosi, will premiere this Sunday (25 March 2012) evening,” shares Gazal with Tellychakkar.com.

Talking about story of her play, which also stars veteran Gujarati stage artist Dinyar Contracter, she says, “It is a story of two families who move from a chawl to a flat and how their attitudes change. The plot also deals with the love interest between the younger generations of the families (Gazal obviously plays the daughter and her co-star is a new actor).” So is this a serious play? “No. Gujarati audiences prefer comedy as they want to de-stress after a hard day at work. The theme in the first half will focus on how the couple will try to win over their respective parents. The second half will get a bit serous as my character will be seen suffering from a serious disease (Uterus cancer) and what will happen next is something which the audience should check out at the Tejpal auditorium, where the play will be staged.” Though she is enjoying her stint in theater, but she wants to make a comeback on television, “I am ready for anything that is interesting. It can be a bubbly character or a something serious like saas bahu. My theater training has made me ready for anything.” Furthermore, she has no qualms in wearing shorts skirts if the role demands. So how was the experience in Left Right Left (LRL)? “It was superb, we were one of the highest rated shows on SAB TV. Even now I have fans who tell me I loved your role in the above army academy show. Most of my co-stars like Harshad Chopda, Kunal Karan Kapoor, keep asking me why I don’t get back to TV. One of the main reasons for this four year absence is that I don’t want to do anything just for the sake for it.” She also agrees that she made a mistake by flying off to USA after LRL ended. “But I did not want to miss out on the experience flying overseas with my stage troupe.” Remind her of the unhappy way her season of LRL ended, Gazal keeps quiet and only after prodding does she reply, “Whatever happened was unfortunate. I left at the right time. The other actors and producer (DJ ‘S A Creative Unit) should have settled their difference, whatever they were, within the four walls and should not have spoken to the media.” Well, Gazal let bygones be bygones and we hope that you soon make a comeback on television!!!
