Giaa Maanek and Hina Khan
When viewers tune into Colors' Jhalak Dikhhla Ja, they will be delighted to watch all their favourite stars on the show;including of course, the queen of dance Madhur Dixit Nene. But little will they know what went on behind the scenes to get the show on air. For one, show leads such as Giaa Manek (Gopi Bahu of Saath Nibhana Saathiya) and Hina Khan (Akshara of Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hain) almost did not make it to JDJ, courtesy some scrapping between two broadcasters Star and Colors. What basically happened is that Star had objected to the leads of its shows being signed on for the dance competition on rival Colors. Reportedly, Rashmi Sharma (producer of Saath Nibhana) was asked to let go of Giaa and replace her in the show as she was adamant on dancing in JDJ. But Rashmi was in no less a soup. She is coming up with a show on the Viacom18 GEC and officials there told her that if she either sacked or prevented Giaa from performing on JDJ, she would lose her commission for her new show. Clearly, a difficult situation for all those involved. But things got worse for the actors, according to reliable sources. Yesterday (16 May 2012), the Association of Motion Pictures and Television Producers (AMPTP) and CINTAA officials met up following complaints by the two actors of their plight to CINTAA. Apparently, at the meeting, producer J D Majethia, vice-president of AMPTP, shouted at Giaa for behaving unprofessionally. Giaa was left helpless and tears flowed. We called up Giaa and she preferred not to comment, so did JD. Rashmi Sharma denied being a part of the meeting. It looked to be curtains for the duo – that they would not be on JDJ. However, succor came from elsewhere: top officials from Colors and Star met and decided to come to a truce. They agreed on exchanging actors for non-fiction shows. And the latest info is that both Giaa and Hina Khan are a part of JDJ and they will continue to be the leads in Saath Nibhana and Yeh Rishta respectively. We got in touch with Raj Nayak, head of Colors and he said, “I have not heard of any dispute.” On the other hand, Dharmesh Tiwary, CINTAA General Secretary agreed that a meeting took place yesterday. “Yes, we had a meeting between the actors and the producers. But we are not allowed to talk about any dispute till it gets sorted out.” We all hope that this one has; for the final time.
