Sharad Malhotra, who impressed one and all with his debut show on TV, Banoo Main Teri Dulhann, has no doubt been missed on the small screen, but the actor is now quite excited about his debut Bollywood project, Love in Sydney which will release on 27 July 2012. Says Sharad on his movie, “It is a film about six friends who move from a small town in West Bengal to Sydney, Australia, to study in the New South Wales University. The film basically deals with a love triangle that will happen between my character, Prateek Chakraborty and lead girl Bidita Bag. Our cast also includes fellow TV actress Reshmi Ghosh, who happens to be one of our friends in the movie.” Sharad is confident about the success of his film despite the fact that the movie has no big names. “We have made a logical film with all the required masala elements and it has good music. We have also cut the promos in HD and hope to release the music in a different avatar. When everything falls into place, box office success is guaranteed and today’s audience cannot be fooled by just big stars.” Ask him whether it was a deliberate attempt to wipe out the Banoo Main Teri Dulhann image by staying away from work for three long years, and Sharad says, “Well, I wish to state on record that I am what I am today because of Banoo Main Teri Dulhann and I am also grateful to the producers (Shakuntalam Telefilms), as they allowed me to go out of the show as I had got saturated after playing the same character for 3 long years. My next dream was to see myself on the big screen, and for that I needed to have a clean slate and also had to better my craft. Hence, I went to the New York School of Acting for a year and did a course there. By the time I came back, the Banoo Main Teri Dulhann image had died down a bit, and Love in Sydney happened.” When asked whether he is still in touch with co-actor Divyanka Tripathi with whom he was reported to be involved, he states, “We are good friends and keep in touch even now. There are many people who claim that we are not in touch but that is not true. We have known each other for the past six years, so a certain bonding has developed”. Lastly, Sharad signs off saying, “I will do TV as and when I come across interesting offers, and that can be fiction or non-fiction. Right now, I am concentrating on the promotions of my movie.”
