MUMBAI: From decades, racism has been a big factor of concern across the world with people getting discriminated based on their caste, religion, gender and even their skin colour. Well, the outrage over the latter has only fueled in today's time, especially after US-based George Floyd's tragic death. The internet is also enraged over products, films-shows-ads and organizations that, in some of the other ways, have been contributing to people's racist behaviour and promoting all the stereotypes surrounding it. All the companies producing fairness creams and other related products have been at the receiving end of criticism ever since.

Amid the same, one of India's leading multifunctional companies - Hindustan Unilever - has announced taking a progressive step. In their statement, the official account of HU has revealed that they will get rid of the word fair from all their Fair & Lovely range of products. "We’re committed to a skincare portfolio that's inclusive of all skin tones, celebrating the diversity of beauty. That’s why we’re removing the words ‘fairness’, ‘whitening’ & ‘lightening’ from products, and changing the Fair & Lovely brand name," read their tweet. In response to the same, a lot of people, including Shah Rukh Khan's daughter Suhana Khan, has welcomed their decision with open arms.
