"I want to be a chemistry professor!" Gauri Nirgudkar

Reserved is her middle name. Krishna aka Gauri Nirgudkar from Star One's Betiyaan Apni Ya Paraya Dhan is probably in the league of the top 'politically correct' actors I have encountered. The polite and low profile lady voices that she is in the field courtesy destiny. Krishna, who plays the lead in this late night daily, is not star struck or in awe of her public image. The fragile damsel's day begins with shoots, naps in interims and later on her way back home; very unlike her on-screen character Krishna who would twist an arm to get her job done.

The fragile damsel's day begins with shoots, naps in interims and later on her way back home; very unlike her on-screen character Krishna who would twist an arm to get her job done. As I gather my questions, I am well prepared for her "No Comments". We commence with…so how does she like herself in this avatar? "I enjoy playing the backbone of the family. I like that aspect of Krishna. I have a romantic track with Parth (Gautam Rhode)". That's all that I can get from her about her role and the show, she doesn't tell me is anything apart from being the protagonist. As per her current track she is alleged to have all screen space with the budding love triangle (Parth-Krishna-Karan) going full throttle. We move on to talk about something more informal than the show. Say what would she be if not an actress? With that question her co-stars split with laughter. She voices, "Chemistry professor', she explains, "My mother is a chemistry professor, I graduated in the same stream and I really love the subject." So does she miss her teaching career? "Not quite. I tutor my sister so that ways I satisfy my urge. I don't plan anything in life, like acting wasn't. There's never a seclect agenda to my life or my chosen profession." Her co-star adds, "When we first found it, I was amazed! You know between shots, actors surf the net, watch porn or chat but I caught her checking up on chemistry formulae. We have gotten used to it and now even we enjoy it with her." Being a hard-core Maharastrian, we'd like to know her take on the Marathi T.V industry? "Well, I still think that they are rich in content as compared to an average Hindi soap on the small screen." That is not all; the lady has an award winning Marathi Film to her merit, Uttrayan where she plays Neena Kulkarni in her young age.Once an actor does a movie it is often assumed that they would not step into the television industry, however Gauri contests that, "For me, nothing comes planned. So I go with the flow. I am not specific about T.V or films. It's important that I enjoy what I do." It is rumoured that she has been offered a bag of new shows but refused to take up any. She explains her reason for doing just one show. "I can't work like my co-stars, they run from one set to another, work in shifts, manage dates etc… I can't slog. I do only one thing at a time. Right now, I have all the time for Betiyaan Apani Ya Paraya Dhan. Nothing else." Now that's what we call commitment.
