Never count your chickens till they are hatched. However, one wouldn't fault Harshit Saxena or his fans for thinking so, especially after the former emerged as the winner from East, West and South of India at the grand finale of Star Voice of India. After sweeping three zones one felt that Harshit would bag the title. But fate had something else in store for him. Tellychakkar met up with the singer moments after his loss. He poured his heart out to Mayur Lookhar

Q Was this verdict hard to digest?
Honestly, even after I was declared the winner from three zones, I still felt that I could lose it in the end. That's how it goes in a reality show. I was prepared for any eventuality.
Q But were you not dejected with this result?
It does hurt a bit but I'm more disappointed for my parents and especially my grandmother, who was just too tense to even watch the final. That's the reason why they chose not to come tonight.
Q Do you suspect any foul play?
I'm not going to comment on it.
Q UP too falls under the North zone. Does it mean that your people didn't vote enough for you?
I wouldn't buy that theory. They certainly did vote for me. It's just that I lagged behind in other states from the north.
Q So did you lag behind on the marketing aspect?
You are performing on such a big platform and its being viewed all over India and also in the world. So there's no question of lacking behind in terms of marketing. To succeed in such shows, it's about 99 % of your effort and 1 % luck. I reckon I fell behind on the latter.
Q Did the recent blast in Lucknow detract your fans from voting for you?
Perhaps it could be one of the factors. It's a very unfortunate thing to have happened. My sympathies are with those who've lost their loved ones.
Q Don't you think reality show contestants are soon erased from public memory?
We Indians have a very short memory. As long as you're in the limelight the media and the public talks about you. The moment you're not seen for a while, they write you off immediately. My struggle has just begun. For me winning or losing doesn't matter, I'm just glad to have got the opportunity to perform on such a platform. Before I came to VOI I was a nobody. Even when I came here, I just didn't know how to perform. Often I resembled a statue with my feet stuck to the ground and my head facing down. So for me it has only been about gaining instead of losing.
Q What are your future plans?
Mukesh Bhatt has already signed me to sing for his film Raaz 2. In fact, they had offered the film to me when they had come on our show. I have received a few other offers but its too premature to talk about them
