MUMBAI: OTT platforms have been booming for quite a while now and it's time to make hay while the sun shines. And this is exactly what Yash Raj Films seeks to do with plans to launch its very own OTT platform to mark its 50th anniversary, as per media sources. It will serve as the library of all the films made under the YRF banner.
Launch of an exclusive OTT platform will help YRF in utilising the immense potential customer base these services have to offer. It will also mark a significant change in the entertainment industry highlighting the importance of adapting to the changes. And when a prominent trend-setting production house like YRF takes a step like this, it will be interesting to see if other production companies follow suit.
If that happens, it will become very cumbersome for the audience to get a subscription for each and everyone of them. The success of OTT platforms lies in the diversity and quantity of content they provide, which will be difficult to achieve for production firm specific platforms.
Moreover, such production house oriented OTT platforms will lack the essence of a single point of entertainment source for content ranging from around the world. Also, the big question from the audience will be why do they get more new subscriptions when they already have so many including both national and international ones.
While this is still a far fetched scenario, the launch of OTT platform by YRF is imminent and probably the announcement will be made on its founder Yash Chopra’s birth anniversary on 27th September. Also, as per sources, there are plans for announcement of high profile films including stars like Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn, Katrina Kaif, Deepika Padukone and many others.
