Vipul should win Indian Idol season 6: Poorvi Koutish

Poorvi Koutish, the 18 year old crooner from Chandigarh never ever imagined to be in the Top 10 list of Indian Idol 6, but went on to have an amazing journey in the singing reality show on Sony Entertainment Television. She happened to be the only girl to make it to the Top 4 and that’s quite an achievement. Though the girl missed the bus to the finale of the competition by a whisker, she is glad that she was part of such a big platform and looks forward to having a great career in music.

She happened to be the only girl to make it to the Top 4 and that’s quite an achievement. Though the girl missed the bus to the finale of the competition by a whisker, she is glad that she was part of such a big platform and looks forward to having a great career in music. Here is Poorvi in conversation with Tellychakkar.com post her exit from Indian Idol 6. Tell us about your journey in Indian Idol 6... To be very honest, I never planned to take part in Indian Idol. I consider myself lucky as I am the only girl among the top 4 contestants. I did not expect to remain in the contest when the Top 16 was announced and to have come so far has been an amazing journey. I have had quite a lot of fun being in the show, and have gained experience that will help me in my future. Share some memorable moments that you would not forget… Well, the moments when appreciations from the judges, mentors and everyone around poured in, I was floored. And the feedbacks I got from the mentors and judges provided scope for improvement. Do you think you deserved to win the title? See, all the top ten contestants were talented and good and all of them were contenders to the title. Every person had a unique quality and it must have been very difficult even for the judges while allotting marks. What is the X-factor in you that took you so far in the competition? My X-factor has to be my voice and different style of singing. Of course, I have the blessings of my parents and God’s grace. And as I have said earlier, the luck factor was also with me. So what do you think went wrong? I think I do not have the total Indian touch in the songs. I don’t blame anyone for my exit as the going was really tough out there with competition at its best. If I sit and look back at the performances, I feel all that happens, happens for a reason. And above all, there has to be only one winner. So all is well. Did you think that you would exit from the competition at this stage? See, the moment good singers like Kaushik and Amitabh went out due to lack of votes, I started preparing myself for my exit. Do you think your drawback was that you concentrated on the western mould of songs more and you should have experimented a little bit earlier? Well, I guess yes. But having said this, if I had experimented earlier, I would have gone out quite early (smiles). Now that you have had a good journey in Idol, would you recommend your friends or known people to participate in the competition? Of course. I would tell all to get out of their lives and come here and be a part of the amazingly different reality show. I do not know why people feel everything is made up out here; I would like to say that everything that is shown to the viewers is real and not planned. The experience that you get as a teenager out here is something that you would never get in your house. What are the negatives that you have observed out here? Firstly, I was not ready to take up challenges initially and I did not want to get out of my comfort zone. But I did try to come out of my genre and try out something different in the Classical and Qawali rounds but that unfortunately brought me to the danger zone. I was really saddened when singers like Kaushik, Amitabh and Deeksha Piyush got out. It is very essential that you have a good ride of luck in such competitions. Who do you think will win Indian Idol now? I feel Vipul should win. Who are you supporting? Well, I am supporting Vipul; all the three are unique singers but Vipul stands out in his versatile singing. What are your future plans? When I got 87% in my 12th standard commerce exams, I had told myself that I would get back to studies if I do not get into the Top 10 in Indian Idol. If I entered the Top 10, then I would choose music as my career. Now after acquiring all the success in a platform like this, I will want to pursue music and take my singing to the next level. With time, I would want to enter into Bollywood as singer.
