Hindi TV shows that deserve a comeback

Let's take a note of the compilation of the Hindi TV shows that need to make a comeback with their sequel(s)...

MUMBAI: In the 2000-'10 decade, many Hindi TV soaps made wonders with TRP, owing to their popularity.

With the '90s kids forming the majority of the country's viewer-audience at that time as teenagers, the regular storyline of Hindi TV shows had to succumb itself according to the viewer's demands and changing tastes.

To grab viewers from the youth age-groups (12- early 20 y/o), content creators shifted the content-zone from the regular 'saas-bahu' dramas to more 'youth-centric' storylines, focussing heavily on the cast-lineup (for the on-screen look factor) and career-options for both the genders. This era of Hindi series showcased the featuring of subtle yet career-oriented girls as their female leads for the first time.

The clothing pattern of the on-screen characters also changed drastically. Initially, a bit of exposing and western garments were subjected only to the negative characters of the shows. Around this time, with youngsters being roped in to portray young roles, there was an ease granted to the on-screen dress-codes, e.g. Girls were slowly seen wearing denim and sleeveless tops and lead men were seen sporting tattoos and head-scarfs, etc, to give the vibe of 'college students' to the characters.

Despite these changes, people still preferred to view the main female lead in a typical Indo-traditional avatar who aims at pursuing her dream.

The setup and set-locations also changed drastically owing to the theme of the shows. Focus shifted from the bedrooms and kitchens to colleges and it's premises (canteens, hallways, classrooms, locker rooms, labs, etc.), maintaining the setup of a typical Indian family for either of the leads to create the 'tensive-appeal'.

Lastly, while experimenting with various western-based themes, quite some mythical and supernatural themes were also highlighted by some of these shows to give-off a 'fairy-tale-like aura, keeping in mind that late '80s and '90s kids have grown-up reading them.

Keeping these points in mind, many youth shows came up which triggered the young crowd like never before and they deserve to a sequel owing to their charismatic and contrasting themes. However, most of these shows completely deserted the showbiz sector once they went off-air.

If they can maintain their old aura despite improved accessibility to modern-day resources, they are completely potential of making it BIG on-screen again.

Some of these shows are:

1. Miley Jab Hum Tum

This show was a sequel to the Star Plus series Sanjivani - A Medical Boon as an Indian medical drama television series. The show focused on a new generation of medical interns with the crux being the love story between Dr. Armaan Malik (portrayed by Karan Singh Grover) and Dr. Riddhima Gupta (who was originally portrayed by Shilpa Anand and was later replaced by Sukirti Kandpal. The latter was again replaced by Jennifer Winget).

Another Star One series which was a remake of the Argentine soap opera Rebelde Way. The story was based on the lives of 12th-graders of 'Maurya High' school. As the show focussed on the Indian social-class distinction system, the four main characters - namely Tia Ahuja (a fashion entrepreneur's only daughter), Anvesha Ray Banerjee (a Bollywood filmstar's only daughter), Yuvraaj Dev (brat son of an Indian politician) and Ranveer Sisodia (dwelling from a middle-class Rajasthani family who comes to Maurya to avenge the death of his father with Sumit Ahuja) reflected different social groups of the Indian society. They form the music group "Remix" and become the singing sensation of the decade.

It debuted on 1st November 2004 and last aired on 20th July 2006.

4. Bepanah

This was an Indian supernatural television series which was produced by Ekta Kapoor. The show was one of the more 'ambitious' projects of producer Ekta Kapoor. Vivian Dsena's portrayal of a vampire in the show helped establish his public notability. The show was quite popular in its run and garnered appreciation from it's audience.

It used to air on STAR One from 18th October 2010 to 15th December 2011.

It would have been more intriguing if the OG cast of these shows could be gathered together for their suggested sequel(s), however, the proposition seems impossible in the current scenario owing to personal commitments and speculated authoritative orders.
