MUMBAI: Over the past few days, Janhvi Kapoor has been the talk of the town since the trailer of her film Roohi was released. In the film, Janhvi is playing a character that gets possessed by a witch and Rajkummar Rao and Varun Sharma are playing leads with her.
Amid this, she has spoken about the criticism she faces due to her privileged background and how she aims to work hard to make her place in people's hearts. The actress recently shared in a chat how her character in Roohi helped her let go of her vanity as well.
In an interaction, Janhvi shared that she is willing to work hard to win over audiences. She explained that 'scrutiny' is a part of the job that she signed up for and that the viewers are not 'obligated' to love her. She further explained that in her job, she is giving away herself to the audience to love her, and hence, she needs to give them reasons to do so. She claimed that she is willing to work hard and will continue to do so to win over the hearts of everyone.
Janhvi expressed, "You're giving yourself to the people, asking for their love. But they're not obligated to love you, you've to give them reasons to. There's no self-pity or shame in that. I need to keep working to win everyone over. Sure, it's seldom that people win over everyone but I have aspirations to reach that level.".
Further, she shared how her character in Roohi is a witch and how it helped her to let go of her vanity. Talking about it, Janhvi said that playing the role made her push her boundaries as it has a duality about it. She said, "Some scenes required me to push myself emotionally. My character 'Afza' is a witch, so obviously you can't be conscious of your vanity. The worst you look, the better it is for the character.".
She even praised her co-actors Rajkummar and Varun's comic timing and expressed they helped her learn that 'you don't have to do anything extra to be comic.'.
Meanwhile, Roohi's trailer released last week and managed to create a lot of buzz among netizens. Janhvi, Rajkummar and Varun's act was loved in the same. Two songs from the film, 'Panghat' and 'Kiston' were launched this week and are doing well on the charts.
The film is helmed by Hardik Mehta and produced by Dinesh Vijan. It is all set to release on March 11, 2021.
