Devoleena Bhattacharjee misses the celeration-vibe in Delhi, READ

Not many would know that before moving to Mumbai, Devoleena Bhattacharjee was a jewellery designing student at National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Delhi.

MUMBAI: When she came to Delhi, that was the first time Devoleena moved out of her home in Assam.

The actress said that studying here and staying on her own here is one experience she still cherishes.

Devoleena expressed, “I was always very good at painting and sketching and that is why my brother suggested that I should take up a jewellery designing course at NIFT. I got interested and that was how I landed at NIFT. The campus is at Hauz Khas and when I was studying here (in 2009), I wasn’t staying at a hostel. It was a great experience being on my own in Delhi and there wasn’t even a single day here that I felt that I don’t have a home here.”.

Devoleena added, “One reason could be that I had my brother, other relatives staying here and I made some very good friends.”.

She further said that like every parent who is worried about their children moving away from home for studies, even her mother was slightly worried, but she didn’t stop her from pursuing the course.

“I am sure my mother might have been slightly worried, but she never stopped me from coming to Delhi. I know there are many people who always think and say that Delhi is unsafe to move around, but luckily, I never felt unsafe in Delhi. In fact, I used to go around quite a lot after finishing my classes and even on weekends. Apart from the popular addas that most students visit in Delhi, I used to frequently go to a stationary market near Chandni Chowk as one could find some very good books and other stuff there. The other reason why I loved visiting that place was the food. I would walk down from the market to those narrow lanes of Chandni Chowk just to have kachori and aloo ki sabzi, that was my favourite part.”, said Devoleena, who was here for a couple of days recently to shoot in NCR.

After completing her college in Delhi, Devoleena has visited the city for shoots, promotions etc.

“In the last few years, I have made only one non-work related trip to Delhi. It was for my friend’s wedding here. I miss that vibe and energy of celebrations in Delhi.”, said Devoleena, who shared with excitement that right now, celebrations only make her think of Holi.

“Last year, we could not celebrate Holi and this time too we plan to have a small celebration with my friends in Mumbai. I am someone who has always been crazy about Holi. I am not the one who would bother about my skin or how would I remove colours. I do try to go for organic colours, but I can’t celebrate Holi without colours. I love colours. For the last few years, Holi celebrations have always been with my friends. This year, I am surely going to celebrate with my close friends like Rashami Desai and Rakhi Sawant and others.”, shared Devoleena.
