Shifting to films from TV was a mistake: Sonal Sehgal

Talented TV actor Sonal Sehgal, who did films like Hotel Kingston and Saara Akash is still going through a bad patch. Her latest project <em>Future To Bright Hai Ji</em>, in which she play a TV actress has again gone unnoticed. “Too many films released last Friday and most screens were taken by <em>1920 Evil Returns, Skyfall</em> and <em>Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana</em>'. We will finally get a few shows from the 9th onwards and hope that first time producer, Rama Mehrotra of Real life Productions, will at least recover some of his investment,” say avers.

We will finally get a few shows from the 9th onwards and hope that first time producer, Rama Mehrotra of Real life Productions, will at least recover some of his investment,” say avers. Sonal had first moved to the big screen with Aashayein. It was a perfect debut (director Nagesh Kukunoor and co- star John Abraham). Unfortunately, as the film got delayed due to financial reasons, it did not make a mark at box office. Then she went on to do Radio, Damadamm and Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai. These films again did not work. “I guess my films are not destined to be hits,” she reasons. Talking of doing big films in Bollywood, Sonal says,“ Who would not want to do so, but it is quite tough. The ‘A’ list circuit in B Town is dominated by insiders. Leaving out Priyanka Chopra, Aishwarya Rai and a few others which actor does not have a industry surname? It takes years for somebody like me to even meet the producer forget acting in their films,” she observes. So does she think shifting to films from TV was a mistake ?“Yes, monetary wise, it was, but I can’t do something day in and day out which I don’t identify with. Television, somehow, can’t come out of the family drama routine however different they look in the beginning,” she maintains. She would not mind returning to TV. “But it has to be something different like my earlier shows in which I played a hotel boss and a demure looking spy. The biggest problem with the idiot box is that once you sign up for a show, you are locked for at least a year. By this, you might lose some interesting films projects if they come along.”
